My Psychiatrist Told Me To Find A Different Doctor

I'm at the emergency room now because of the intense panic attacks. I'm afraid to be alone and my husband has to go to work tomorrow. They said they could give me stuff to calm the anxiety. I'm waiting to see the doctor. Hopefully they will tell me how to taper off of this stuff safely. I've never experienced anything like this in my life. There is fear and panic in the pit of my stomach. I am shivering and waves of chills and nausea keep coming over me.

I am here @EvenStrongerNow if I can help at all. Must you stay there? Do you want to stay there? I don't see where you live but I am going to tell you, if it is near me I would come to stay with you in an instant! I will watch to see if you reach out. So many gentle hugs to you.

Thanks and it's okay. I just got home. They gave me ativan to take as needed for the panic and the doctor wrote down tapering instructions for the risperdal. She said all the things I told her about my experience last night and today is signs of a classic panic attack from antipsychotic withdrawal.

@catjudo It seems like you are talking to someone else maybe?

You haven't heard the entire story. The Risperdal he put me on was making me severely depressed and causing mental confusion. It completely took away my feelings and turned me into a zombie. I have medical evidence from an Endocrinologist that I have a hormone imbalance. I have not had a menstrual cycle in 9 months and I have an MRI scheduled for tomorrow because they suspect a small pituitary tumor.

We tried every which way we knew how to work with this Psychiatrist "together as a team", but he was failing to look at the medical evidence and he would not listen to what I was saying about how the Risperdal was affecting me negatively. When I told him I didn't want to take Risperdal anymore and asked to try something else, he dismissed my case.

What is it that you think we could have done differently?

Also, that same doctor told me that I could just stop taking the Risperdal and that I would have no withdrawal effects. The night before last, I experienced a psychotic break and a severe panic attack--things I've never experienced in my life before. Even the ER doctor isn't sure why a Psychiatrist would put me on an antipsychotic for having a hormonal imbalance. The ER doctor shook her head when she heard he told me I could just simply stop taking the medication and would experience no withdrawals.

So, I'm not sure where you are coming from. It sounds like you are speaking to someone else. You don't know me or my story at all. I am not an argumentative patient. I don't see where you are getting that from at all? :eek::unsure:

@EvenStrongerNow

Concerning your homornal imbalances related to Risperdal, I share the same problem. My doctor said that my prolactin levels were three times over the normal amount. I'm scheduled with an appointment with my endocrinologist on the 13th. Anyway, if your psychiatrist refuses to acknowledge a medical problem of yours, then I don't believe it's in one's best interest to continue following this doctor.
