Sufferer My Step-son Tried To Kill Me

In short, my step-son tried to murder me on 9/26/16. He shot at me 11 times, luckily only hitting me once, stabbed me 16 times, and then left me for dead. I am incredibly lucky to be here. I haven't been back to work since the incident. I was in the hospital for 3.5 weeks, and have been at home recovering since. I finally go back to work in 2 days, and am pretty nervous about it. That's a good start for now... I'm hoping this is a place to chat with like-minded souls.

Welcome. I am so very sorry for the circumstances of you being here.
This is a very caring and supportive community.
Are you in Therapy and have support and selfcare tools to help you go back to work?
Let us know how you are and how work went.
You are not alone
Gentle hugs if you accept.

Good luck on your return to work. I second what ladee said, do you have a therapist or self care tools in place to help you if your return to work triggers you? I'm glad you found us, but sorry you have to be here as it means that you too suffer. Welcome to the forum, and I hope you find everyone here as caring and helpful on your road to recovery as ain't have. Raven

I think that you will find plenty of support here and at work. This is a great place to air your fears, insecurities and find friendship. You might think work will be tough but there will be more friends there than you will have ever known otherwise.

Having PTSD or being a supporter brings on many facets of human emotion. One thing you will find here is that most people are very supportive. Even when you are being judgemental or feeling really down.

What happened to you is horrible. But there's help here and with your friends and coworkers. Just count anything you can find (floor tiles, ceiling tiles, etc.) if you start feeling anxiety at work. You'll make it. I promise.

Welcome to the forum. So sorry for what you have been through. I hope that you are getting help through this especially as you renter the work world. Good for you for reaching out here.

I'm so sorry you were attacked. You certainly did not deserve such a thing.

There are good people here. I'm glad you found us!

Blessings for a complete and speedy healing.

I appreciate all of the responses. It's nice to find a place where people are present, and listening. My first-day back at work was really good. It was good to see all of the people that I have missed for three-months. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't get lost in my head at any point during the day, and there were definitely opportunities for that to happen. I hear PTSD symptoms can sneak up on you, so that's my biggest worry right now; that one day I will be sitting at work and unexpectedly be flooded with emotions of some kind. I guess time will tell.

If any of you know of any good resources in Houston, as far as support groups and such, I would appreciate the recommendation(s).
