For the past few months my old p-doc has been treating my depression but it wasn’t getting any better. Long story short, between my t-doc and my new p-doc, they came to the conclusion that the PTSD is the underlying factor not the depression. The first traumatic incident happened in ’99 and then another in ’09 which sent me into my current depressive episode. I never made the connection. Now it all makes sense. Anyhow, instead of just taking an antidepressant I am now on 100mg of Zoloft, 15mg of Remeron (mirtazipine) and prazosin for reoccurring nightmares… any advice of things to expect or watch out for? Feedback is greatly appreciated…

I'm on 15mg of remeron for sleep and maxed out at 200mg of the zoloft. I am constantly thirsty and they found that it's the remeron that affect the histamene (is that how you spell it) receptors in the brain which is truly a pain. No side effects that I can think of from the zoloft. I also take 400mg of topomax for mood stabilization. I'd be interested to know if you're running for the bottled water anytime soon ? I am fully stocked at all times and constantly curse myself if I leave home without at least 2 bottles:eek: Heather

I always get the rare side effects...

Remeron makes a lot of people gain weight. What did it make me do? Lose a lot of weight. Even my pdoc was surprised because he said that it was a weight gainer for all of his other patients.

Remeron also puts most people to sleep. What did it do to me? It made me wired 24/7 and I didn't sleep at all.

Good luck with this one... From what I've heard it's smack dab between the tricyclics and the ssri's as it is a tetracyclic, and has the side effects of both classes of drugs.

Just bought my first case! I'm drinking like a fish!

Remeron also puts most people to sleep.

I'm sleeping close to 10 hours now... Which is OK by me since I've gone almost a year without solid sleep... I've actually been on the Remeron for a few months now, the other two are new for me. I gained tons of weight too but it's starting to taper off a bit :D

I didn't know about the weight gain thing until I just read it right now. haven't experienced that (thank god!) My nurse practitioner better be glad! because I'd have her head on a platter! She knows that I do NOT want to be on any med. that has that as a potential side effect! okay I'm done venting:cool:

@ Heather

I was on Remeron for 3 years and it was a last resort for me. Was told by the doctor that people either respond to it or they don't at all. I was one of the ones who did. The first 2 weeks were awful as the medication takes time to get into your body and work. I didn't gain much weight on it, I guess we all react to it in our own way. Needless to say it saved my life, and I don't think I could have gotten through those years without it.

Funny that you call it cocktail too, I called my old shrink my bartender ;)
