Hey everybody so I'm an FNG to this forum. I was diagnosed with PTSD back in 2011 after I put off getting help for several months after I got back from my deployment to Kandahar, Afghanistan from the end of March to the beginning of October in 2010. In the 6 months of my deployment we had 86 rocket attacks and two ground attacks. I was fooling myself for the last about year or so thinking that I didn't have PTSD anymore but work got stressful and my three year old hit his terrible two/threes and driving me crazy and it reared its ugly head again. I'm getting counseling for it now and they diagnosed me with anxiety this time around... which has me a little angry with them but that's besides the point.

Welcome HoldenMonty.
f*cking Kandahar...
Cool thing was I got to chill in Qatar for around 3 days on the flight from Iraq to Afghan. Because of like you stated, that shit was always getting rocketed. Couldn't land on the airstrip. Couldn't believe some guys were getting paid hazard duty pay to drink three beers a day, eat Dairy Queen and swim with women in bathing suits... Oh MY GOD... I ALMOST forgot the weapons and ammunition turn in on arrival. Talk about pissed the f*ck off!

Welcome Home Monty. You got to the root fairly quick so good for you, took me 6 years to figure it out and some of the folks here even a couple decades. Take your time, check out the media section.
Stay safe, stay strong.

Doc: definitely sounds like Al Udeid AB, always thought the folks stationed there got a paid vacation. My first impression was "this new military is different, these youngsters have no clue; acting like they're on spring break every night, bartering for beer chits, etc..." I deployed into Baghdad from there & it took 3 attempts over 4 days; long missions all the way in just to abort and RTB.

Welcome Brother. You've come to a good place. It's meant lots to me.

AAAHHH, am I the only old grunt here scratching his head over that swimming pool? It's in a combat zone? Really, no shit??????????

Lol... Dude. We used to appropriate pools (but we were in drug-country. Some pretty sweet compounds). Not to mention fill random objects with water to sit and soak. Half the time in camis and dump chlorine in just to help kill anything growing on you.

But ya know its a bad sign that you won't be coming home, soon, when you build your own!

Oy. I can totally see the progression from plastic lined hole, to "who has cement?, to "what we really need is a filtration system", and 48 hours later an honest to god pool. What I can't see is it being official. With red and white plastic lane markers, lifeguard chair, and all. That baffles me.
