I am a Marine 84-91 Desert Shield/Storm vet. I have PTSD did not realize it until my wife of ten years researched it. Went to mental health at the VA here in Prescott. I was then referred to the Vet Center. This is were my journey began. I had an awesome counselor that directed me on a different path. I was unemployeed at the time just left the Postal Service because I could not handle the stress. So then my wife researched Voc Rehab through the VA. I was asked what I wanted to do with my life. I was 43 years old and said shit I do not know. So I did some soul searching and it came to me one day. I want to be a counselor at the Vet Center. I asked my counselor what do I need to do he said 6 years of school and gain your MSW. I can say now after my BSW I started working at the Vet Center doing intakes and some minor counseling. I am in college again doing my graduate work at ASU. I will have my MSW in Spring 2015. I look forward to being a part of this community. Semper Fi

Besstr, welcome to to the forum. I too, am in Arizona, up in Flag. But I did go to the Vet Center in Prescott for some time. Now I go to group with our councilor coming up every other week.

Look around, ask questions or join in.

Welcome besstr - yeah PTSD, I also was the last to know!

Vet Centers are excellent places of healing - unlike the VAMC that push pills they instill HOPE.

Good luck, you'll be an great asset.
