New Here
Hey everyone! I'm new. My name is Tab and i'm 19 years old. I am apart of a few online support groups and forums and each one I have found very helpful. However, each one I use for different purposes and was glad to be able to add this forum to my list. I found this website while searching for answers about EMDR as I have just started the actual EMDR part of my EMDR therapy. I have already found this site extremely helpful and find peace in knowing I can ask others who have already gone or are also going through EMDR and trauma related issues in general. It's hard to find people to relate to in person so I am very glad I have online support and all of you. :)

Hi Tab, welcome to the forum! :)

I haven't personally done EMDR myself but many here have, so you'll be able to get lots of feedback and information on that type of therapy here.

I haven't done EMDR either. I understand it can be very intense and that you need to have good grounding skills before attempting it. Other than that, I'll let people who know more answer that question. Welcome to the board!

Welcome tm2566! From personal experience I will tell you that you should only do EMDR with a therapist who is well trained in EMDR and experienced. Make sure that your therapist hasn't just done this a few times before. Also, ask your therapist about negative side effects past patients have had. They probably can't get into specifics because of confidentiality but they should still be able to give you a general idea. It's a very powerful therapy that has helped a lot of people but I regret doing it with a therapist who wasn't well trained enough. Anyway, good luck with it and welcome to the site!

Welcome tm2566! From personal experience I will tell you that you should only do EMDR with a therapist...
I've been with my therapist for three months now which may seem like a short time to start EMDR but I really trust her. She specializes in PTSD, trauma, and eating disorders. I have full confidence that she knows what she's doing. Her speciality is EMDR and so far it's been going well. :)
