New Meds Making Me Feel Like I'm Losing My Mind

I have been put on new meds from yesterday and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I feel a little out of of space, like I'm not my normal self. Unaware of my surroundings, I have a little to care about. I emailed my doc and she said I should give the meds a week and I will get used to it. I have completely lost my appetite and interest. From the time I start the pill I've been in bed mostly unaware of my surroundings. I feel like I'm losing my mind.
I'm not sure if I should continue taking them or just quit, I think I can manage without meds. I hate the side effects. If I don't feel any better by tomorrow then I think I should stop them

What meds? I had this experience with Remeron. It made me feel precisely this way, and suicidal, for the first week or so but then it passed. If you start having any suicidal thoughts, contact your doc right away -- some meds meant to help depression do the exact opposite and can be dangerous.

i have the same problem , physc meds make me far worse and anxiety meds work for a short time and then remove my defenses leading me to more problems. But i am also aware medication is very much an individual preference and it does work for some. i can understand you wanting to stop, talk to your dr and explain how you feel and what not or alternatively get a second opinion, there are many options available and sometimes the ones presented to us are the easiest and least time intensive for the provider.

An alternative to meds is exercise , diet and supplements like 2 fish oil cap a day and 2 x 400mg Magnesium Caps, some say this is a good alternative to anti depressants, i use them off and on and have found benefits to it

Are you sure this isn't a placebo effect? I ask as you say you've been like this from the time you started the pill.....even the fastest acting pills take time to get into your system.

She's added Topalex to everything else that I'm taking.
Maybe it is placebo effect, will give it a week and see how I feel then

I'd never hears of it, so Iooked at an NHS website, http://youtu.be/VKHFZBUTA4k

t says more than 1 in 10 people get side effects including
Feeling less hungry, eating less and losing weight.
Feeling sleepy, drowsy or sluggish. It can last for a few hours after taking your dose.
You feel tired all the time and don't feel like doing anything.
Feeling low in mood.

For each of these they recommend informing your doctor, and suggest changing the timing of the dose may help with the sleepiness.

@Reds , my doctor is recommending Trazadone, and I'm scared to death. What you are experiencing would have me concerned too. It's good to have this thread to refer to and see what others are experiencing with their meds. I have never used pharmaceutical drugs to manage my symptoms. Exercise, diet, and whole food supplements are no longer enough right now. I am in such a state of dysregulation that I'm actually willing to take the meds, but I'm so scared, and reading this thread makes it seem like a crap shoot anyways. I've lost all my structure, and routines, and my place is a pygsty, I can't get organized, and I can't stay asleep, and I'm scared I'm going to go crazy...so I guess I should give the trazadone a try. The thought of the unknown sucks. I can't be in control if I go down that rabbit hole...or is that not true...am I thinking about it wrong?

@stenni I've been feeling really strange like I am not myself. so i decided to reduce my dose and only take them before bed but I would still wake up feeling sluggish. Today I decided to stop taking them and I feel much better. I was also able to do some work, I hadn't done anything from the time I started on this meds. I had told me doc of the side effects, who suggested I should give the meds a week before getting off them completely. I couldn't survive a week feeling like that.

@Lewa I haven't heard of Trazadone, let me know how it goes. you might just end up feeling better on it

I do think you need to discuss this with your doc. It's so hard to find the right dose of the right meds. Maybe they need to start you on a very low dose, or maybe this just isn't the right one for you. I never found any meds that worked for my PTSD. The Pysch. finally decide that I was just too sensitive to all the drugs and gave up trying, as the side effects always made everything worse. But I do wish I'd had the beneficial effects some people describe from meds.

What are you taking it for? How much pain is it worth putting up with to get the gain?
