Night Terrors Happening Again

I had a real bad one last night. I was screaming for it to stop, bf was woken up, I was hugging him, and while awake, the farking shadows in the room became evil. I wasn't fully awake, I screamed, turned on the light, and my bf lost sleep. I didn't fall asleep until an hour later, listening to my favourite science videos online.

That was the straw that broke the camels back. I backed out of a few things (not looking for a job anymore) just waiting and hoping to get help for this.

I hope I don't lose it. It's not been this bad in YEARS.

Hello @LuckyDuck I am going to assume that you have PTSD and suggest that this was not a normal night terror but a PTSD nightmare where something triggers adrenaline ( the fight or flight response), in your sleep.

I am not a doctor and I cannot diagnose, but I can tell you that I have had some very disturbing nightmares that sound similar to the one you shared and I am taking a medicine that has been helping me called "Minipress" / "prazosin""

This is a blood pressure medication that the veterans administration discovered was good for PTSD nightmares. It is given in a low dose and I have found it to be very effective for alleviating nightmares.

I would like to suggest that you speak to your physician about your night terrors etc. and let them help you so that you do not continue to suffer.

I wish you the very best,

peace,
Lionheart

That makes loads of sense. Not sure if the medications are covered, but I'll be bringing it up to my doc (might be the GP, still waiting on a psychiatrist to get a proper diagnosis). It was definitely fight or flight. I chose fight in the nightmare. Some fictional character in my brain died. George RR Martin's got nada on my subconscious, but he's still awesome.

I keep a nightmare diary. I've had them for the last two yrs. I now go through them during therapy. Wish you well.

I suffered from one not too long ago and I memorize my dreams down to the second. Instead of being terrified about it, I am actually letting one of my favorite horror authors write a story about it.....

(((HUGS))) I want to hug so many of you...this is making me cry...
