Notice For Pet Owners

Maybe I am the last to be informed, but I want to let you all know something I learned yesterday. I am still in shock.

We can get a paper prescription for pet medications from the vet and get them filled for a hell of alot cheaper at the regular pharmacy.

I have been buying pet medications from the vet, who never gave me a choice, just handed me the meds and charged me 500% more than I could have been paying for the same meds.

I also used an online pet pharmacy, but this knowledge could put them out of business too.

I need eye drops for my cat, which the vet charges $20 for. The online pharmacy charges $8 plus shipping, which ends up being $13.
I learned this little secret about taking them to a human's pharmacy yesterday and paid $4 for the identical drug.

I am shocked and upset thinking of all the money I have wasted my whole life by overpaying for pet medications. I just want to strangle that vet.

I learned that the hard way too when I was getting pain meds for Frisky during his cancer battle. It was $17.55 for five days' worth of buprenorphine from the vet, yet at my work (Walgreens) I could get DOUBLE that amount for $12. Aaaargh. (Alas I couldn't get his Metacam from there, only place I could get that was from the vet.) Really wish I'd known that sooner. Coulda saved myself a good chunk of change there.

Wow, thanks for filling us in about this. My dog is going in for surgery soon and will need a lot of meds for recovery... You just saved me a pretty penny.

I didn't know this until I saw the bottles of medication from the regular pharmacy for my roommate's dog.

Fortunately my animals have been healthy for the most part. Otherwise I'd be mad, too!

Then again, the vet doesn't want us to know this information because just look at how much profit they make off of medications!

My kitty had scabs and injuries on her ears, right where i swab on her transdermal gel thyroid medicine. So this same vet tried to sell me a $20 bottle of special shampoo to wash her ears, and a $8 tube of antibiotic.

Instead, I used regular soap and Neosporin. Her ears are better.

Am I made of money?

I guess I have lucked out with a great vet.

My pup needed some meds and he told me he could sell them to me but it would be cheaper if he wrote out a script and to get it filled at my pharmacy.

I complain to my wife that vets seem to have a hell of a racket going with their services but from this thread I guess I have a good one that saves me money where he can.

That's an honest vet, Riggs, who is more interested in your bottom line and your pet's welfare than his own bottom line.

Now let's hope that by being willing to kill the opportunity to sell you overpriced drugs, let's hope that his charges for exams and shots don't make up the difference.

My vet actually told me I could get it cheaper at the pharmacy, and sent me there. I guess it's "open book" honesty compared to "I'm not required by law to tell you" honesty. I like the first kind much better.
