I don't even know if I'm posting this in the right place. I'm sitting here going back and forth between the two forums (sexual abuse and this one). I have the television on mute and all of a sudden I HEAR IT and it's talking to me but it's still on mute!

I'm trying not to freak out. I can't handle this anymore. I'm tired of this. I want it to STOP!!!!

Anybody else have the t.v. talk to them?

Yes. Sometimes at night or when I am home alone when the t.v. is off I swear I hear it (voices, laughter, music), but when I look, it is still off. I wish I could give you some answers on how to make it go away, but I don't know how to.

This is the most disturbing, distressing, frightening sh*t and I want it to stop!! But I don't know how to make that happen.

I'm sorry you're going through this :(

I can't say I have had this happen to me before but I have had a few instances of auditory hallucinations before and i know how scary they can be.

I wish I could offer you some solid advice but I'm afraid I can't. Have you tried some grounding exercises?

. Have you tried some grounding exercises?

I never thought of using grounding techniques because I'm oriented to time and place etc. It's not like disassociation. Idk. I'll try anything at this point. Can you please explain more about what you were thinking?

Sometimes the wrong meds can cause this.....what are you on?

It's not the meds. I'm actually on meds. to prevent it. That's why I went into the hospital because I was having the hallucinations. I called the crisis line where I see my therapist and she asked the same thing and when I told her what meds. I was on she didn't say any caused hallucinations. But I'm always up for input:

  1. Topomax
  2. Trazedone
  3. Zoloft
  4. Abilify
  5. Buspar
  6. Seroquel as needed

Oh dear, Heather!! THat is a lot.........Abilify itself would cause me to hear people talking. I am not about to play shrink because I know it's very dangerous to tamper with meds and if they help.......Whew, I don;'t know what to say about it except give you a big hug

(((((((HEATHER!!!!)))))))))

I hope it passes because it sounds very scary......

Ugh, Heather, I used to have this happen to me a lot, especially if I was in another room or just trying to fall asleep. I would swear the TV was on downstairs. Sometimes I would get up to turn it off until I did this several times and just started ignoring it. I was too young at the time to turn a phrase like "auditory hallucination," but it was very scary. I just assumed at the time that all people heard things sometimes that weren't real.

Televisions are just odd when it comes to ptsd. A number of people here have had disassociative episodes while watching the television.
Also watching or just knowing that your Tv is on, even though it is on mute could be confusing your brain into thinking that you are hearing something, or making you more aware of small sounds outside your zone.
I mean, when Television sets are on, you are normally hearing stuff... I don't know sounds reasonable.
This is exactly why I run a fan near me while I'm sleeping, so the white noise can help drown out little stuff I might hear.

Also Seroquel can cause hallucinations in some people, it could be that the dose is too high for you or something. Maybe there is a way to determine if it is the cause?

I am by no means an expert whatsoever but I stumbled across this....
