Omg - The Audacity Of Some People

This morning I awake, check my emails, and there is a contact us message from here... stating clearly that I am wrong to ban India, the entire country, from registering here, and is racist... blah blah blah. The person continues in their message, and then highlights how I should share x URL with all members, something to do with Yoga, as it would be beneficial to all members. Oh snap! They wanted to spam the forum! But apparently I've gone about banning 1/6 of the world population because I'm racist, and not because it is the #1 location that this forum gets spammed from.

Hmmmmm.... just wow. The audacity that some people seriously have, all wrapped tightly in a belief they have some god given right to advertise their products freely upon this website.

Amazing... and quite a funny and amusing start to my day.

Yup... was already thinking that. Didn't want them to outright state they're spammers or anything... I got two contact messages about it though, so they were on their way towards complete hypocrisy.

I keep noticing that here and in other contexts as well, it's like "Hell hath no fury like a spammer stopped from spamming".

Like, sales and advertising techniques are some sort of human right. ...?

India is just the current country of spammers right now. It used to be Romania many years ago, Russia has had a good turn, along with a few others... but people eventually block them all out and they become ineffective. Pretty much what I have done here already... Oooppppssss... to limit it as much as possible.

My favorite member here, who has never spammed me btw, is from India. I hope there is not really a ban on the whole country!

There is, yes, from registering. It was implemented due to the high and consistent levels of spam we were getting from India, thus the entire country was removed from registration. As we have anti-proxy instruments in place for registration as well, you can't get around it by using a proxy to register from another countries IP, either.

I let it off again around two months ago, I think, from memory, and we immediately got human spammers every day again, from India. They aren't the first country, and won't be the last that this happens to in relation to anti-spam measures.

OK, I understand. It has to be tough on the folks that really need us there, and thankfully I will still be able to converse with my closest friend here who is from India, but I understand now.
