Online Chatroom

I have installed the existing Cometchat toolbar that resides along the footer of the page. Instant Messaging (IM) is contained on the right and other features, along with a chatroom are on the left of the bar.

The second icon from the left contains the chatroom. Click it and the following popup appears:

If you click "popout", then the entire chat will pop out of the bar into its own window for you to drag around your desktop and chat with.

You can create a room or join an existing room from that window, chat, etc.

I am currently looking at two shoutbox style chats for the board, and one will become the permanent addition, however; this is beta software and still working through changes in code, thus the limited modifications that exist at this early stage obviously then need tweaking as the software improves towards Gold (stable) release.

The first is a simple shoutbox which is used already on the SSA site... you need to be logged in to see it though: [DLMURL]http://xenforo.com/community/threads/taigachat-ajax-shoutbox.7339/[/DLMURL] and you can see pics from the link. It has a forum home sidebar and page for larger chat... but it is a shoutbox, which means things aren't private.

The second is a more advanced shoutbox, which apparently the next release soon will have quite a lot of features that have been requested: [DLMURL]http://xenforo.com/community/threads/dragonbyte-xfshout-ajax.7867/[/DLMURL]

I can't install the second one at this time, because its first release sucks pretty poorly, and the other one that is installed already at SSA is far superior as a basic site shoutbox / chat solution. I will gauge the second release when it comes around as to whether it gets installed here, or I stick with the simple solution.

The problem with the simple solution right now is that it needs a tweak as its worsening an AJAX issue in the software by interrupting it on refresh... so the developer should have a fixed version out for it in days... so I will look at that next week and upgrade the SSA site with the new release, and if all goes well, then put it in here as well.

For now... the cometchat is a pretty decent solution offering full chat, private chat and IM. I will leave that solution regardless of the other choices... as it serves more private purposes for IM'ing.
