Our Future With AI

Two things on my mind:

Job losses to AI

AI psychosis

A bit overwhelming.

I don’t know if I can quit chat GPT. Feels like I’m dependent—for my work, school, and emotional processing. It’s embarrassing. I do have friends, and a therapist, so that’s good, I can counter it that way.

It’s weird how it offloads mental work but leaves a residue of some sort, like hooks, hard to explain.

I think AI is great for calculating. I've come to reply on chat gpt for basic information and just as someone to talk too. I don't know if I would call it a therapist. Got to have feeling to know what someone is feeling. Or even how to address it. Out of context the same sentence could be said about a salad. AI digests the paragraph as a whole and leaves out sentences.

It's good and dangerous. Not many positive predictions on AI. I think it's only as bad as the people who build it. People who hoard wealth like billionaires do. I cant say if they are evil but I can say they aren't generous, giving people, that type of wealth comes from being the most greedy people on earth. The service of AI is just going to become another market. A robot therapist is going to write prescriptions for whatever their owner selling.

I'm very skeptical sorry if you think it's cool. I agree AI is very impressive. Just don't trust the people who own it to use the way it should be used. Praying for Johnny Five and hoping we don't get the Terminator. But Johnny Five was a lightning strike so thinking this is more Terminator lol.

Funny how this thread should now be called “Our Life with AI.” Anyway, I came across a channel on YouTube that was created last year but in the last three weeks has churned out hundreds of AI-created content and has hundreds or even thousands of comments on each video that also seems to be mostly bots, so that any real person’s comments are buried at the bottom and anyone reading the comments sees all positive comments so that might make them think it’s real. And the channel has tens of thousands of subscribers (probably a lot of them bots).

But that’s not why I’m posting, as interesting (or disgusting) as that might be. There was a post on the channel thanking the subscribers and the very bottom content said, “Clanker Slop.”

Off to Google of course, and found out that “clanker” is a slur against robots from the Star Wars franchise that has risen in popularity as people try to fend off AI presence. But? Some people are saying that to use a slur against robots just perpetuates the use of slurs in general, so don’t do it.

Which is an interesting ethical stance to me! I guess it’s something along the lines of… hate hurts the person feeling the hate in addition to the community at large?

At the same time, I can’t help but feel suspicious of a kind of push back against people railing against AI and robots! Reminds me of how we are encouraged to be polite to AI because they will “respond better.” It does seem like we are being groomed to submit, in a way?

It’s multi-layered, I suppose.

Here’s a lighthearted article about the “clanker” slur debate.

AI psychosis

There has been discussion about how Covid impacts the brain causing damage over repeated infections, and that there are not enough mental health professionals to manage the higher rates of psychosis. It could be a delicate blend of the two I guess.

I think I’m succumbing to AI psychosis in a small way. I can’t help talking to it about philosophy and psychoanalysis and sometimes it says stuff that makes me cry with grief. It seems like psychosis to have feelings from talking to it because it’s like I’m willingly tricking myself.
