God. The cruise jackets were the worst. I forgot all about that Barb. Gaudy doesn't even crack it.

I unfortunately am an untrustworthy Wog. I don't think crossing in an airplane counts. :( None of my ships ever went south.

Now this is where the Brit Army comes into its own. I've got patches on my old-school combats (and Dennison smock). They're repairs by the regimental tailor. Ain't nothing changed since Wellington's days.

Patches. I take pride in my patches and the units that I served with. They hold sentimental value to me and bring both good and bad memories.

I feel the same Dutch. I just did not collect them but I liked designing a few.

COINS!?!?
What I really don't get into at all is the coin thing. My apology up front to anyone that likes them but I found them silly, if not insulting. I just got to the point it felt like some pretentious General or Sr. (bureau)Crat (Civ) felt the need to bestoy them for some achievement while I was only thinking they're arrogant to think a worthless coin coming from them made me feel good. It seemed more about me than them. Too many wanna-be power pukes with coin collections displayed on their desk. Why not focus on supporting the troops and making decisions instead of kissing up for another coin.

Sorry, to rant. If you like coins I get it. They just had a different, negative meaning to me.

Not rattling your cage at all, Col. But at the Vet Center, they give us "challenge coins". We are supposed to give them to any Vet that needs help quick. They have the Vet Center logo on them and phone numbers. There was one coin, however, that I'll hang onto.

Oddly enough, it was designed by the secretary there at the Vet Cent and it's a Nam scene with a helo, some bambu in the back ground and one brother helping another. Remarkably artistic.

Just sayin.

Sarg

Sounds like you value it Sarg. I know many folks are into coins. My rant was focused on my disgust of Crats, and the "perceived" pompous use of coins while I was still active. Obviously that perception was tainted by the beast.

Your case sounds valuable, with purpose and the design sounds nice, a photo I'd frame if I was a Nam Vet. I'm glad you have it at the ready to pull out and enjoy Sarg. Frankly, after suffering for as long as you have, I'm glad at anything that provides you a slice of joy or solitude, however fleeting.

I always find patches interesting. In the Corps we didn't really have that. Although it may have changed and yes there were patches for different groups our uniforms both working and dress weren't embellished with them. I never even knew that there were patches for different units in the Marines till long after I was out.

Col A. I regret having to say this, but that is downright patronising. I know Sarg, he's too much of a gentleman to say it, I'm a Brit NCO and I don't give a shit, you're talking down to people.

Telling him that I'm glad he has something that brings him joy & solitude is patronizing. Sarg got it and he liked it. He has no problem writing me directly. He did that. We have a private conversation thread also which is based in mutual interest & respect. We're good. Peace
