Personal power?

having peace and a purpose IS power.. we only know the word POWER to be a negative....

I can agree with that. Power is suggestive depending on what is being spoken about. Its a fluid term. My issue was the phrase "personal power" which is just as suggestive and fluid. Without context I had issue answering the orginal question asked because context was missing.

The power to overcome. The power to push ahead. The power to pull yourself up. The power to live. The power to suceed. The power to thrive. The power to love in the mist of hatred. The power to help others.

Power and the "personal power" you have over others is still a definition and that isn't always bad either as the first site I found says the power a job supervisor has over their suborindates or a CEO had over everyone under them. The power the President has over a country. This is defined by the employee(s) or the people of the country. The power is only as much as those under the power-holder gives. And it just is. Not bad nor good really. It just is.

So, it depends on the context in which it is being used.

That's super-sweet @ladee , YOU are very kind. :hug::hug::hug: Thank you. :notworthy:

power to love and be kind is a very positive thing.

I understand what you mean... I suppose though I don't think of such things in terms of power, they are simply the basic response vs inhumane? Not to mention I'm actually just a freak that way, it often results in lack of any respect or ending up being viewed as the 'town leper' or idiot, anyway. It would undo any good to resent it, but powerless would feel like a more fitting term (along with less than, stupid, and alone).

I think you keep reading Carlos Castaneda's books since that is the only place I ever heard of "personal power." Though his work was more or less proven to be a hoax, the first three books were among the most beautiful things I ever read. Of course I was still using psychotropic substances back then but ...

For me...personal power is found within the acceptance of things that I have no control upon : then drawing from resilience (within hope) for those things that I can change. Personal power is found within that determination and belief system for me within the alignment of a higher power.

Some interesting responses. It didn't even occur to me to equate personal power with *power*. I think of it as self-determination.

Rereading this and yes, personal power doesn't really express what I mean.

I was thinking about this again recently. As in trying to think what words accurately describe the quality I'm thinking of. Maybe spirit? As in spirited not as is the thing that goes to heaven.

And I think if what @Mal Content said about accountability. I recently had the feeling I was moving in. To myself... literally like getting into the driving seat and occupying my body...

So anyway with saying personal power I wasn't thinking of power over others in any way. Rather something along the lines of the life force that means you can be vital, alive, accomplish things in your life, have boundaries...

And how to increase that. And I think I am increasing that but intermittently at best and floundering along blindfolded on a cliff path for good measure.

What would you call this thing I'm on about?

It all reminds me of the formula V=P-O that I read about a few years ago in the Mucusless Diet Healing book written by Prof. Arnold Ehret in the 1920s, and later edited and annotated by Prof. Spira. Vitality = Power - Obstruction. My apologies if I'm way off track from your trains of thought.

When I was fortunate enough to gain that knowledge, and a medical emergency situation prompted me to stop consuming things which form a great amount of mucus (talk about a grieving period of learning all of my former favorites were on the list of things creating the most internal issues), steadily obstructing my innards and chances of forward momentum, my whole flow of energy increased, both internally and externally. (it was and still can be a hell of a struggle, without a doubt, but the results have been like no other)

In other words, I was constantly constipating myself, creating back-ups, traffic jams, chemical reactions that should never happen in my gut and on/or around my body that lead to shit that shouldn't be happening throughout the rest of my body, which resulted in some really pissed off innards, but all of it was repeatedly being diagnosed and medicated as things that were adding even more obstructions rather than helping to clear them....based solely on what I'd been taught and told by professionals, family, schooling, etc. Didn't know any better, so I couldn't do any better. My body damn well knew better and was trying like hell to tell me, but I was my own biggest obstruction at the time.

The usual response when seeking help for those kinds of serious physical issues is to cut someone open and remove the problem organ that is viewed as not totally necessary (ummm....if I was born with it, it's pretty damn necessary) vs. trying to find the root cause and cleaning up the overall environment the organ must reside in. At times it may be very necessary, but more often than not, it seems a bit ass-backward to me.

Someone compared it to a giant fish die-off during a discussion one day. When you see thousands of fish dying for no obvious reason, you don't see them going in to try to medicate each and every fish that's still alive to help prevent further issues, but rather you go in and determine what's in their environment that's causing the death and clean that shit up as soon as possible. The light bulb finally came on in my brain after that talk.

Figuring out what exactly obstructs our personal biology/in-vironment vs. what helps us improve our flow is the tricky part, especially in a society that heavily markets, promotes, rewards, and instructs us to choose the most (often highly addictive) obstructions possible, as those are typically the only options made the most accessible and affordable. I found it to be some pretty mind-blowing and definitely life-changing stuff once I dove in. Hope that's helpful in some way.

Vitality = Power - Obstruction
I do find this helpful to think of. In my case the first thing that comes to mind though isn'
The biological but the social. Thinking of my Vitality as being my "personal power" minus obstruction - a long term abusive relationship really lays it put in black n white how I'm thwarting myself.

Figuring out what exactly obstructs our personal biology/in-vironment vs. what helps us improve our flow is the tricky part,

For sure! I spent several months trying to notice and record things that seemed to obstruct / improve flow. I called it gain vs drain as in energy I guess. But I was noting things from my own daily life which is contracted and unhealthy (mentally as well as socially & physically)

Also still having huge difficulties thinking clearly as a result of the years of gaslighting n dissociation too - makes remembering anything useful I've learned challenging.

But I am trying to get my head round this concept that I'm trying to label... Vitality / spirit not sure they are the right words.

If you think of someone who takes no nonsense - what do you call that quality? I'm not talking about aggression.
