My wife and I were camping around Lake Mead and came across this Dinosaur just coming out of his lair. It’s really hard to photograph these things out in the wild as they’re really good at hiding......?

The power went out tonight, multiple times, so we decided to light the fireplace and hunker down. Fortunately it came back on and has thus far stayed on. We'll be having single digit frigid temps and lots of wind tonight, so I'm incredibly grateful.

I read that it was out due to an accident that took down a couple poles. Sending healing energies to whoever was in the accident and their families, and waves of warm gratitude to the emergency service workers and the power company folks who worked the scene. So many unsung heroes surround us daily.

Here's the bird I mentioned in your diary, @ladee . The colors aren't as vivid and it's a bit of a blur, but the cuteness still shines through. It sat in that spot for a really long time. The tail feathers appear to be almost fully formed, but the body was like a little fluffy fuzzball, and the beak was bright orange....so damn cute...

I forgot to mention that in a tree closer to the house at the same time I saw the little cutie above, was a love dove....the angle it was sitting in appeared as if it might have been watching over the little cardinal. Feathered friends never cease to provide comfort and awe just when I (we) need it the most...

This is a grouse or fool hen as we like to call them up here. You can walk right up to them before they fly away, hence the name. In the winter sometimes they will fly through the air and then plunge into the snow, push through underneath and then pop up. You can just see the first hole at the bottom right. I photographed this one and then came back two days later and she was still there. I guess it's a way to stay warm and safe. The only way I saw her was my dog got her scent.
