I don't know. It seems a failure of democracy on yet another level in the west.
Representative democracy only works during elections and even that is a sham sometimes. After an election every politician is in a compromised position to either look after voters interest or his/her own career. I.E. to get re-elected. This in itself and the fact that their are now professional politicians, (where 100 years ago you may have had people who actually represented their constituency....were actually from their constituency) makes for a democracy that is hollow and meaningless in many ways.
What did someone tell me here. Hate the game, not the playa.
Take away the conflict of interest potentials completely and I think we could actually have better and more sensitive democracies.
My simple suggestion would of course be constitutional reform where.
Increase term periods. 5 years, 7 years, 10 years. Abolish re-elections. Once you have served you have served. No coming back. Senator one time only, go back to civilian life. MP, one time only then goodbye. No more legacies, no more legends. You got your chance to represent the people that sent your there, do your job and go home.
And also accountability. We live in a modern age. I want to be twittered by my representative. I want to know if the guy is wiping his ass with 2 ply or 4 ply. And if 4 ply, why the hell did he use my money to plump for the luxury.
And on top of that....voter recall. If a majority of voters don't like the job you are doing, you should be sent home. That will make allot of reps think twice about voting for personal gain vs voting for their constituency.
3 simple things. Me for world President. But only 7 years (cuz its lucky), then I quit. Or you kick me out the first sign the PTSD kickin in....probably the inauguration speech.
