Post-weaning Depression?

When I was pregnant, I was terrified I'd suffer from post-partum depression or psychosis. TERRIFIED. But then I was amazed to learn that, not only did I not get depressed (with the exception of a few isolated, stress-induced near meltdowns), but my PTSD symptoms seemed to completely disappear.

Now, however, as I am slowly starting to wean off breastfeeding, I'm getting depressed. There's a huge, marked difference in my mood. And it's awful. I'm losing the motivation I had and the hope to make my life better. I basically just feel like sitting all day and staring at the wall.

Has anyone else gone through this? There are other factors in my life right now causing stress, so I can't be 100% positive that it's being caused by the weaning, but it's such a drastic difference to how I was feeling a week ago that it seems like it must be caused by hormones/chemicals.

Post part I'm depression can happen into toddlerhood - I know women who have been diagnosed when their baby was 18 months, so it's possible it's a bit delayed. It could also be the change in connection with your baby, hormone changes associated with milk production etc.

And you're right to think about all of the other stressors in your life - I hear you sounding emotionally exhausted with all the shit you're dealing with - it's possible you've just run out of steam.

What @Suzetig said! Combination of almost two years of constant stress.
Combined with hormonal changes.
Get your butt to the Dr. And not let this turn into a full blown meltdown!
Love and hugs to you and LM!
