I'm taking prazosin and no other psych related meds. Prazosin is actually not a mind altering med per say, it's a blood pressure med and used for prostate hypertrophy. Because it's an adrenergic blocker it lessens the body's symptoms to adrenaline. Takes some of the adrenaline edge off of day to day ptsd adrenaline related symptoms. Larger doses (10mg) at night inhibit the massive ptsd related adrenaline release we experience that makes nightmares so constant and crippling.
All that being said it will not make you sleepy and while you're increasing the dose it's common to have flushed skin and at times a pounding heart rate. (Renin system reaction) your body will get used to it, it took me a few weeks. I take 2mg twice a day and 10mg at bedtime. I use an extra 5mg dose if I'm having a bad flashback day, it helps with my adrenaline related hallucinations. Max dose of Prazosin per day is 20mg. I take 50mg benadryl to help me fall asleep.
Hope that helps somehow!
