Pre-july 4th Fireworks

Yeh... I'm glad it's over. Playing classical music REALLY LOUD while driving was helpful

Bringing up an old thread.

I am hearing the fireworks being blown off already. It never bothered me before, but it does this year. I never had a problem with fireworks before, but this year yes. Maybe it is because I now live alone and have no one to keep me company. I think I will try to go to a friends house to ride out the fourth of July with her and her son.

I hate the most when people shoot their guns into the air. It has already started and It disturbs my peace. I do not have the huge startle response I used to have before anymore, but I am bothered this year.

Anyone have any suggestions on how best to cope and manage symptoms on the fourth of July? Thanks in advance.

I didn't have to worry about that last year- was in-patient no where near fireworks. Already hearing some around my neighborhood (and they're illegal in my town). My kids will want me to watch with them on the 4th, but in the past I've gone inside, which I at least can do (since we go to my parent's place and watch them from their balcony). Being inside makes the sound little less intense, but I still quiver and shake afterwards for quite a while.

I will try to go to my friends house and watch movies and maybe even spend the night. Thanks for the tips on the earbuds. If it does not work out with my friend, then earbuds it is!

Just came here to see if anyone else deals with this - glad i'm not alone. Fireworks generally start in my area at least a week early - but this year they (fortunately) haven't. Still - on the way home from my parent's tonight (only a 1/2 hour drive) saw five police cruisers - four ambulances and 3 firetrucks. Then got home & firetruck pulled into my apt. building as soon as I got here. I am not a fan of emergency sirens either - so it was a stressful ride. I do what I can to try to stay grounded during any loud noises (alarms, fireworks, slamming doors and I hate, HATE thunderstorms) - but I've accepted that this is something that is never going to be a piece of cake for me & i'll never 'love' fireworks.....any more than I 'love' the sound of screeching tires and cars hitting each other since a bad accident I had over 20 years ago! Sorry to hear so many are in the same boat. Oh - as I type here comes the fire truck again...happy happy. Why is everyone so outta control on holiday weekends?

Just started with the torrential downpours, thunder & lightning here.....fortunately this coincided with my sciatica acting up - so I had to take a valium to stop those spasms anyway. NOT going to be a calm night here. Sirens all over (I also live directly across from fire department - this is NOT fun during holidays!). Hang tight everyone.....

Every night I hear the explosions of fire works in the neighborhood. I am glad that we are not allowed to have fireworks in this city but the people shooting them off are doing it illegally. All I have to do is call the police and make a report. I think I am going to just stay at home and off the roads on the fourth. I love watching fireworks, but it is usually in an park that is legal. I used to go with my family every year. This year it jump starts my startle reaction. It will soon be all over.
