Problems With Topomax

AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH! I may have ANOTHER kidney stone:eek::eek::eek:. I was having pain today on the right side this time. Called my urologist and went down there and to my horror/surprise he informs that from the cat scan that they did the last time that there maybe a stone there.

I have 2 words for this: NOT AGAIN!

I have to go tomorrow for an ultra sound. The only good news is that my urine is clear. No sign of infection and something else that he mentioned that ofcourse I can't remember that was clear that points to no stone.

But the pain is still there.

Well this would explain the being thirsty all the time... your body trying to break up the stone or flush your kidneys. Good luck

Oh Crap!! So sorry to here this. Are you still on the Topomax? That's a mood stabilizer right? Is another side affect of that weight gain? I'm looking for a good mood stabilizer right now. I am on lamictal because it has less chance of weight gain. But it sounds like Topomax is a better mood stabilizer.

It's off-Label used as a mood stabilizer. One of the side affects is rapid weight loss for some people. Don't go on it if you a history of kidney stones like me.

I knew the risk but it just works so damn well even with the stones that I don't want to go off it.

I take topomax 400mg daily and have since November 2010. I actually lost almost 30lbs since beginning the medication. I have had issues with kidney stones and am finding some hair loss associated with the medication. I do find the medication helpful with the nightmares I was having which is why I was placed on the drug. It also has been helpful in mood stabalization. I try to weigh the benefit versus the risk, I have refused to stop the medication because it has been so helpful to me, I would rather deal with the painful(at times) side effects.
