Promotion At Work Backfired

Today I got promoted to a supervisory position at my job. I was really excited about it until I found out all of the other people who wanted the position are angry that someone so much younger than them was chosen. These are the people I will now be supervising. I've been in similar situations before, but it never fails to piss me off! I hate it that people assume that because I am young means that I won't be able to do the job, or that because they are older means they could do it better. Obviously my employer chose the best candidate and wouldn't have chosen me if I wasn't capable. I really hate being discriminated against by others because of my age!! Mental note to never harbor any ill will toward younger coworkers when I'm in my 40s-50s.

CONGRATULATIONS

I'm 50 and couldn't give a rats bottom what the age of my manager is so long as they do a good job. I've had bosses older and younger, they did an interview, were the best person.

I worked at one place the manager was great but the older men just didn't get this 'chit of a girl' (their words) telling them how to do stuff.

I admire your determination to not only work but to go for promotion. I'm rooting for you. There is a saying here 'don't let the bas****s grind you down'.

My 24 year old daughter has a similar problem.

Enjoy it

Thank you all! The week went fairly well and my co-workers seem to be more ok with it now. I tried to make it clear to them that I like to use more of a team approach and that it's not them working under me. So far, so good! Thank you all for the kind words!

Congratulations! There will always be challenges in work with regard to promotion. Someone will always feel they should have gotten it. Truth is, your supervisor felt you were better for the job. Don't be cocky or arrogant, but definitely pat yourself on the back and be confident. Keep working hard and remember to reward and praise yourself and God, especially when others won't.

That is their problem. I do not see how it should be any problem for you. In life there are times when people *we* feel are not qualified for a promotion or job, get promoted or the job in question. But consider that *we* do not know all of their qualifications and experience. Instead, the employer does.

I am saying *we*, but it's really not *we*. It's them. It is them and their ignorance.
Which is why YOU were promoted and not them!

Be proud! For that is a right that you have earned!

Congrats!!

Since you've been in this position before you know how to handle it so good on you :) You must certainly know what you are doing and obviously the best person was chosen. It's a rough time for everyone right now so there's going to be bad feelings regardless of who got the position, is my feeling. I wouldn't take it too personal, however, I don't blame you for seeing it that way.

Keep doing what you do!!
