Pseudosufferers; How Do You Identify Trolls?

Now I don't even think that it's bad at all that these people come here. It's a reality check on ourselves: are we all cuddled up and mushy in our little safe haven, or are we ready for real life and know where to set our limits in helping someone who's a liar. Kind of spice things up a little.

(So I've wasted some of my energy, time writing and giving advice to a phony user. What do I learn? Again, not to fall into a trap of illusion of sweet perfection and that once again, not every martyr is looking for real help, but rather for your warm blood.)

The examples of Cancer ant being a vet were only examples. @EvenStrongerNow do you think that wanting us to know stems from avoiding preditory behaviour, and to keep ourselves safe? After all, I think it kinda reminded me of that grooming or manipulative behaviour which for me gave the trigger. Not saying that person was as bad as the past, but it definitely sparked some neural activity around my amygdala!!

I'm not sure I understand your question. Did you mean that our wanting to know which posts were which and who stems from wanting to keep ourselves safe from predatory behavior in order to keep ourselves safe?

If so, then . . . perhaps. It did spark some neural activity from me too, but less so than if I had just chanced upon the thread on my own. If you didn't post this thread, I think my amygdala would've been more affected than it was :D. I totally didn't realize this person was asking for book/character advice. It was really strange to say the least, however, I do realize being triggered can color a lot.

@BrokenGlass, though I do understand your sentiment, others here may not. Not that I am better than others by any means, but I think on a bad day, someone could be hurt by what you said.

I think others would agree with me that we aren't exactly cuddled up and mushy in a safe haven here. We are here to support each other and are suffering from a real disorder that ails us and it's super effective. We all have enough brains to understand that this place isn't completely 100% safe--it is the internet, but the mods here do a pretty darn great job at keeping us safe.

Being triggered and unsettled by someone's post has nothing to do with whether or not people here are ready for real life and it surely does not mean that people here don't know their own limits or don't know how to set boundaries. If anything, we know EXACTLY what real life is like and we were traumatized by it. This place helps us heal.

I did enjoy what you put in parenthesis. Just remember that what might not be triggering to one might trigger another. The solution is not a one size fits all.

@EvenStrongerNow
OK... sorry. Didn't mean to hurt anyone.

You know, it's kind of the opposite, because you just triggered some of my pain. Well, everything's for the best.

And thank you for your notice.

Off I go to do some "trauma processing"...

I don't think anyone here believes that we're "safe" here. Anthony does a pretty good job reminding us that we aren't! Rather, it's maddening that there are jerks who take advantage of our good nature FOR PROFIT! It's ok for us to get mad about people like that. Things may get heated and we may disagree at times but in the end most of us are here to help others as much as we're here to help ourselves. (As in healing, not in a selfish way.)

Sorry my cancer, vet example wasn't clear. I was just comparing it to other situations where people pretend to be something they're not in an attempt to gain sympathy or even money. There are really sick people out there.

@BrokenGlass,
Why do you seem to want to add fire to that situation? A fair number of people come here at their wits end and sometimes they say a bit too much at first---out of frustration. That guy was asking about meds to help him. He mistook you for me and got mad because he thought I was issuing contradictory statements. No need to bad mouth a current member in another post. (This thread was started to discuss a banned member, not someone who is currently a member and legitimately here.)
