PTSD - Can It Be Cured?

I have CFS/Fibromyalgia, and I've had it for nearly 30 years now. Every once in a while I have symptoms - once every few years if I get really sick it'll flare up and I'll have a hard time. But mostly, I don't notice it. I do the things I need to do to keep it at bay - take my supplements, make sure I get enough rest, etc, and then I forget about it.

PTSD was like that for many years for me. I did the things I needed to do to keep myself on an even keel, and forgot about it. Then, stuff happened - I had a spinal cord problem that was progressive and leading to paralysis, had some scary surgery I was awake through part of, my church had a huge scandal and I was put up for some very public criticism, a coworker threatened me. That was enough to completely throw me for a loop - it probably would have anyone, but for me it was a lot worse than it might have been for someone else. So now I'm back in full-blown PTSD, and it'll take a while to get it back under control where it isn't messing up my life.

Do I think PTSD can be cured? Maybe. I think though it's more helpful to me to realize I have a predisposition whether symptoms are there or not, and remember to do the things I need to in order to stay sane. In that sense it helps me to wear the PTSD label, like it helps me to wear the CFS label.

I hope this helps,
