Well, I might as well be the one to rain on everyones parade. But at least I am doing it early.

Your group get together is super, but do plan it BEFORE June 1st or AFTER the end of November. The reason it is the off season is because of small issues the locals call ""HURRICANES"" ! ! ! ! They can show up anytime during the "off"season as you called it, and some times they just pop up out of no where with no real avanced warning.

Late fall is usually when people stop thinking about going to the Islands. With thoughts of Thanksgiving (late November) and Christmas, a lot of folks go north rather than south. So I'd say the last two months of the year would be the best for the least people and the best values. I'd contact a travel agent and get their take, too.

Florida is a little different because the Bahamas are 60 miles away, so it's pretty easy to get there from here. A lot of folks from the Sunshine State go to the Bahamas for weekend cruises.

I would rather those that live over that way, provide us the relevant information, instead of us trying to provide it, as outlined above already, many of you from the US have a far better localised knowledge of the Bahamas than what we would.

Me personally, I think 2013 is to far away... and it should be something more like 2011 / 2012.

I don't know what the cost difference would be, but might it be better to have the get-together someplace OTHER than an island? It is hard to get off an island in a hurry.

You could accomplished the same get-together on either coast of Florida, and still have the beaches and everything that goes with it. The Gulf Coast which is where Marlene and I live is a very popular tourist attraction for people from all over the world. Now they do come mostly in the winter due to the temperatures, so the summer--which hot--is the off season and there are some great deals to be had. We are a couple of hours from Disney World and could maybe even hold the get together there. Florida in the summer holds many possibilities.

The tourists leave shortly after Easter every year so after Easter, but before the schools let out--say June--is a good time IMHO. Not a lot of tourists, managable weather, good deals plus you can leave and head north in a rental car if anything pops up like a storm. Sorry, but we always keep that thought in the back of our minds here in Florida.

I'm not all up on the paranoia bit (avoiding the Bahamas altogether), but June is a good month to do Florida.

A good idea to bring the date forward, we'll just have to save that bit harder! As for destination, I'm not sure about Disney World, at the moment I couldn't cope with the crowds but in 2yrs time, maybe.

I tried to do some research for travel from the uk to get an idea of cost but dates are only available up to april 2011. I'll try a travel agents next.

Just my personal opinion.....

I think that this is a great idea, but with a few problems, that need to be worked out..

First off, is the fact that many on the forum don't work, and have limited incomes...(I work, but this would still be a drain on my finances)I think with some planning though, that issue can be worked around...

I think that all of those that would like to go, need to come to an agreement on WHERE to go, and WHEN.....

Then I think the biggest thing that could be done is to find out about group rates....Hotel/motel rates can be expensive, and with group rates this could be a lot less..

I think too, that it would also help if people were willing to share rooms, if at all possibly..I know that decision would be later down the planning phase, but it would also help to cut down on expenses.....

I think it is a great idea ! What started as just "chit chat" on our xmas forum party...could be a reality !!

I will be going to Cuba for a 1 week vacation on Jan. 16........so hopefully my fear of flying will be less and less....so Bahamas here we come !...or anywhere else, as long as there is sun, beach, and laughter.

I truly believe the more the better for us getting "group" rates ! It certainly can be done !
