can anyone point me in the right direction? I have been talking to my shrink and we think the service dog would be good for me. but I would like all the facts and study info on this for Canada, I know the US have been doing this for a while now with great outcome, but not much for here in Canada. all help would great thanks.

Cyprus, you are entitled to a case manager if you have any pensionable conditions here in Canada. If Veteran's Affairs didn't assign you to a case manager, I suggest you request one. My case manager has been extremely helpful so far. As well, the Peer Support centres operated through the OSSISS Program are very knowledgeable of the existing programs, and often know allot of the short cuts.

I personnally don't know of any Service Animal program here however. What Area are you living in? I do have contact numbers for OSSISS in the Maritime Region, and could easily get contact numbers for other regions as well. All their advisers are Vets diagnosed with PTSD, so they really know what they are talking about.

I am in Gagetown NB and would love some numbers. I am going to find out who is my case manager this Tuesday down at the VA's office as I went threw them for my claim and I think they told me I had one( the memorys not so good) I want to find out all the facts befor I bring this forward.

So, any luck? Jerry is a good guy, really helpful and he knows the system. Former Engineer. Good guy to have on your side while your standing in the mine field. So do we have a service dog program?

havent had a chance to call Im going to wait till I find out who my case worker is tommarow after lunch at vet affers. and and than on Thursday I see my shrink again and see what the team has said after he talked to them about it. I want to get all my ducks in a row befor I start pushing the right buttons but I have been in contact with a place in Nova Socita that trains dogs for people with PTSD and they said they would help in any they could. more to fallow. I havent been this engaged with anything for a while so I guess we can say its helping already lol

well more good news today I called OSSISS ( still dont know what it stands for)and was talking to Jerry and he told me that we have a member in my location with a service dog for his PTSD and he would give him my number so I can get some info and ask some questions. I hope he calls. by the way thanks Zipperhead for pointing me in the right direction Ill keep everyone up to date as things unfold.

after all my googling I do know that there are lots of places in the US that eather train dogs for you or you can go threw the training with your own dog and as long as he passes all the tests he becomes a certified service dog. so your best be is to GOOGLE service dogs for PTSD and find a location close to you. I think youll be quite supprised at the amount of places out there.

interesting, I may ask about this down the road, zipper this world can never have to many greasy tankers;P long as your not a strat:P
