Hello,

I'm Cat. I'm really pleased to find this forum, it's such a help to read other peoples posts and to have somewhere to discuss my thoughts, worries & quirky behaviour without feeling the need to a apologise for them!
I was diagnosed with PTSD in Nov 08. I'd been struggling with symptoms following domestic violence & divorce for three years but was in total denial. Now on my 12th month of sick leave I'm beginning to feel like I'll never return to work. Following six months counselling I am currently in therapy with a private psychologist & had my first session of EMDR last week. If anyone else has had or is undergoing this therapy I'd be very interested to hear their views on it.

HI cat & welcome to the forum.....

There are a few that have done EMDR on site, and they can explain things a bit more to you. Don't totally give up on the hopes of returning to work. It may not be in the job/or area that you once worked, but there is always hope, so don't give up......

Hi, Cat. I'm also undergoing EMDR. It seems to help a bit, but it's effective to have a feeling on something and not necessarily one trauma if you're dealing with a series of lifetime traumas like I am... It usually opens the floodgates and helps me build a new picture of where I want to be as a person. It seems to help put me in a better place with the series of traumas and how I respond to my knee-jerk reactions to "like" situatons and helps alsmost replace them with a lighter response. It helps the very strong responses become less aggressive for me and the change seems to "stick" by the end of the session.

Best of luck. I'm on my 7th month of disability and feel the very same way you do about returning to work. I pass my work expressway exit on the way to my EMDR appointments (go figure) and I want to throw up every time. I usually cry or pound the steering wheel or tense every muscle in my body and feel like crashing my car. Work isn't even the major trauma here. I hear you.

Tender thoughts to you...
