Funny time to ask this being close to as bad as my worst time with ptsd but I've wondered for a while. My VSO (turned out to be a huge shitbag) told me when you want to try working again the va will continue to lay your benefits for a year in case it doesn't work you won't have to spend years to get back on disability. Is there any truth to this? When I got divorced they hit me with no sympathy for a mistake in when the marriage ended and got their money back.

My Experience might be different than yours considering I'm in another country but my situation is they will continuously reasses and when the good days outweigh the bad ones like 3 weeks good 1 week bad your probably ok to enter the workforce, then once they determine what kind of education you should go through you go do that, then you enter the workforce and once you start making money from your work they deduct it from your benefits so your making what you'd usually make anyways, then they wean you off slowly and if there is trouble down the road all the pathways are previously established and your back where you started. I have to declare all my earning outside of va so I think that's how it goes, I'm in the same situation, therapy is the first priority, second priority is entering you in the workforce. They won't even start you on vocational rehab until your better and on solid ground

I think thats what people who specialize in vocational rehabilitation services get paid to do, find you a employer that is willing to accommodate your special needs in the work place ie, taking days off when needed, and perhaps allow a service dog when you work, which is what you want in the long run.
