I took the Multidimensional Inventory of Dissociation last night which is a valid test used by psychologists.
To my surprise it flagged Defensive as very high (120 where normal would be around 80) and as something that can lead to errors in testing. The test also gave the results of PTSD and ddnos 1b.
.
Reading the manual that goes with the test, I learned that this high defensive validity flag is very common in people who have repressive personality traits. People with these traits typically undereport negative or distressing symptoms. It is common for them to repress negative emotions and reminders or memories that trigger the emotions.
My minimal research tells me that this is not the same as dissociation, which I know I do to some degree.
I can't help but wonder how this impacts the results of the test as well as my progress in therapy.
I do express emotion in therapy but it is either in a dissociative / emotional flashback way or immediately cut off and choked down. In life in general my emotions are frequently outbursts or again dissociation / flashback.
Besides finding out about this new information which seems accurate, I'm wondering if I should tell T about the test and results or just ask her to administer the test herself so she can see them 1st hand.
