Wasn't sure where to put this thread - book club? Discussion? Therapy? - Please move if it's in the wrong place.

Just wondering if anyone has read this and what they think of it. My counsellor is getting a copy for me to look at as she thinks it might be helpful.

Yes, I use this book and have found some useful insights in it, as well as some exercises that I've used.

There are accounts of other peoples abuse, which I didn't find helpful for me. And obviously not everything in the book is something I can use because there are many differences in how abuse affects us. So, I guess like any book, you take what you need and leave the rest.

Not heard of this book myself but YES, I am a firm believer that one way to set demons of the past (particularly childhood ones) is not only important for recovery but essential!. Having thrown myself in EMDR with my T and giving myself no rest until I fully understood what I was going though, I took myself back to save / rescue the inner child that was me. xx
I will be looking out for this book next time at Waterstones.

@digger1 - funny you should mention this, as I had a little discussion with my T about helpful books yesterday. I was asking her about a book that was mentioned in another thread regarding emotional neglect - Running on Empty, by Jonice Webb. My T strongly recommended that one.

She went on to strongly recommend another book, regarding your inner child - Homecoming, by John Bradshaw. She said it was very powerful, and that she thought I would be better to read Running on Empty, THEN Homecoming. As far as I can tell, there aren't a lot of abuse stories in the book, and the reviews on Amazon make me really want to read it.
