a few times my therapist has recommended a residental treatment program, not inpatiant, for me. btw this is inside the US. does anyone know of a good place to go or places to watch out for? the goal is approx 4 weeks of intensce treatment with help within ear shot but not hovering above you all the times.

Marc,

All I can say is that any treatment program would be better than no treatment program, it's what you take out of it.

I am in Australia, but from what I have heard from people on here they are all based around a certain model.

I did an 8 week non-live in course here. It was 4 weeks of two days a week and 4 weeks of 5 days a week.
The down side of the part time one was people were going home and getting on the piss or doing drugs. At least with a full time residential program they can get your meds right and monitor your sleep etc, etc. I don't think they will be hovering over you 24/7.

Hope someone else can help you out.

I steyed in a hospital lock down setting for 2 weeks. it was a very bad 2 weeks that ended in 8 diffrent medications and I was just as nervous leaving the hospital as when i went in. BTW the hospital was not ment to help with PTS just suicide, homicide and substance abuse problams. for me it was more traumatizing then i could handle. for several months after we we getting rid of unneccesary medications they had me on. I think a program that is not a lock down program, that focuses on PTS might do some good.

I spnt 9 months in a clinic and it helped more than I could imagine. Get out of the dialy grind and concertrate on yourself.

It is what you put into it, and definatly better than nothing. A couple of weeks is bullshit and doesn`t help no f*cker. the longer the better, and take as much apoosible from it.

I know of one in Florida, and one in Texas, but I'm sure there are several others. Contact the VA or your on post mental health facility and they should be able to point you in the right direction. I just got done with 3 weeks of in patient CBT, and it was rough. Hope you can find something.

I have been looking into these for some time now. I have some issues with what they consider residential treatment. It is in a hospital "like" environment. I was inpatient in the Navy and here recently. Both very very bad experiences. So the similarities drive me nuts alone.
The center nearest me in Florida is Biloxi, Ms I drove out to access. The staff were over the top accommodating, warm and friendly. I just don't know if I can take being in same room with 3 other PTSD vets. Sure there is time off to go out during the evening but you report back at 10:30. I guess its the built in relief valve so we don't pop.

I would recommend this center, It does have 2 month wait once the ref feral is in. I almost admitted a few weeks ago but didn't want to overlap Christmas and have my extended family asking were I was. It will be hard enough having those I know asking me "How are you?" I already know what they are saying. Even if I am doing good, this sets me back into thinking about my condition. The pink elephant thing..
Im rambling but this is a good center from what I can tell. The first is 45 days coping skills and CBT/CRT. If you do well then you may become a candidate for the extended 2 month therapy where they go after your stressors.
Hope this helps.

I've heard of the one in Florida and heard great things about it, it's within the va so ask your therapist about that one.

My view is to do whatever it takes. We have to take this beast by the horns. I wish Australia had more in-patient (residential) programs. Sometimes I would like to do one. I did a part time one over 8 weeks about 6 years ago.

i have to complicate my search a little more, i won't go anywhere with out my dog. she is a sevice dog, my friend, my life line.
