Does anyone have restless leg syndrome? I have had it since I was a child, I have been taking mirapex for it for about 10 years. I have sometimes wondered if there might be a connection between PTSD and RLS.
In an article regarding an upcoming study I came across some statements asserting there are neural mechanisms linked to tinnitis, RLS, and PTSD.
I can post a link to this article if it is needed.

Irs,

I have also had RLS since childhood. I take mirapex also. This might make for an interesting poll?

My son has restless leg syndrome and I often wondered if he has PTSD.

He just started taking mirapex and said that it didn't help him fall asleep but he didn't toss and turn as much.

I will keep my eyes on this subject to see what surfaces.

Ah yes another club i can join, as far back as i can remember as a child i would complain and cry myself to sleep tossing and turning all night long only to be told its growing pains. It wasnt till my Fortys that i had to do a sleep study that the Doctor told me that my legs twitched and kicked all night, "DOH" . You have Restless leg syndrome, something we all knew, but id just put up with for years, dam growing pains. The good Doctor perscribed me Rivotril (Clonazepam) the first night slept like a baby, pop two pills and away with the fairies i went. I was as happy as until my GP found out that i was taking Rivotril with a couple of sleeping tablets and a few Valium after a bad day of PTSD and needed a good night sleep, shit it worked for me, id never heard him use the F word in front of me. So im glad to say Yes i have Restless Leg Syndrome.
Nugget.

I'm sure clonazepam would work, but now there are a couple of drugs specifically indicated for RSL, mirapex and requip. I have been taking mirapex for almost 10 years now. I'd hate to know I had to live without it.

I only have it when pregnant, so I'm of no help except to pipe in and say that we don't all have it. It's awful though. I feel for you guys.

One more thought from me...

Although mirapex has been a "wonder" drug in treating my rls, it is a drug that can have some serious side effects regarding impulsive/compulsive behaviors that are worth a discussion with the neuro who is prescribing IMO.

Zoe

Yes, I researched that before I took my son to the doctor. It states the side effects are compulsive gambling, shopping and sexual encounters that one otherwise doesn't normally do. There are lawsuits because of this.

I told my son that if he felt the urge to gamble, shop or engage in unprotected sex to let me know.

He gave me one of his looks - DOH!. Yea like he really is going to go shopping LMFAO He's only been to Best Buy twice, and I'm sure he's never bought anything at a regular store in his life.

Anyway if he starts coming home with cloths then I know he's been shopping and will discontinue the med. Very strange side effects IMO.

Peace
Tammy

I've had it horrible at times. Related to ADHD a shrink once told me. That new Rx stuff is worse than the RLS I think. Clonopin works good and is a piece of cake to come off of if you want. Withdrawal are minimal 'cause its so long acting.

Here is the Miracle Cure for RLS.........before you laugh.....try it......place at least one (two works better for me) under your bed sheets near your legs. I thought my mother was crazy when she told me this but it works......she read it in some "Ole Wives Tales" book.
Best of Luck

Do you mean place the sheets under the mattress where your legs rest? As if you are trying to elevate the end of the mattress for your legs?

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do here?

Tammy

Tammy captrn1 just forgot to add the word soap.....Place 2 bars of soap down by your legs, under the bottom sheet. It really does work for some people....
