Restructuring The Service

I was told recently that due to restructuring my job is to be downgraded.

I will be on protected salary- for an unspecified time. My job will essentially be done away with. They will create a new post one grade lower. They are uncertain of the timescale of these changes. What is worse is that they have not yet decided if we will have to apply for and be interviewed for these new posts!

It only affects 2 of us, and it is unlikely there are many others out there with the appropriate qualifications if we do have to apply. It is quite a specialised job. However after 10 years in the job it feels like a kick in the teeth.

I am trying not to take it personally. But...

I worked in local government for 14 years and went through several restructuring processes.

I had to re-apply and be interviewed for my own job twice. It was really stressful, especially as I fully and independently financially had to support myself.

It does feel like a kick in the teeth, although my situation was easier than yours though, as it affected everyone.

I feel for you and this is a really difficult time. The uncertainty of it all is very very stressful.
