Satellite Internet

I am moving to the middle of no-where I just spent over an HOUR with Direct TV and I would rather put hot pokers in my eyes than deal with those people ever again.
Who out there has satellite internet and what company do you use?

I don't think mine is satellite exactly. I have it through Verizon, my cellphone company. I've had it ever since I moved here, because there wasn't much choice. No problems with it. (I keep getting junk mail from direct tv. I've decided I hate them A's I've never even talked to them.)

Cell phone coverage is going to be a while OTHER ball of wax. There's no coverage out there really to talk about so I'm going to guess that Verizon isn't going to be much help (that's my cell provider as well)

Ouch! Maybe you'll get lucky. I've gotten a signal with them in some pretty unlikely places. I've been told that all phones aren't created equal and some get a signal better than others. I'm not sure about the hot spot thing.

I hope someone else can come up with something.

Personally I have cable but I will advise satellite internet is slow and have high latency (dragging/buffering/less devices being able to connect at once).

If I had a choice I would stick with cable. I'm already an established client and they have decent service. UNFORTUNATELY no one has service out where I am going so it's satellite or nothing. Not even DSL.

What we referred when we decomissioned dial up so yep. DTV and HugsNet is about the same. There are comparassion sites. I don't know as a customer. Just as a compeditor.

Satillite is satillite. Beem from earth to space back to earth, either way. The speeds matter but they Max out at 25mgs I believe. So pricing and contracts etc will be the main difference in the companies.

HugesNet is smaller. They are normally in the rural areas. Look for speed. Who has the highest speed avail. in the area. Then look at pricing and contracts etc. Speed & latency will suck either way but the more speed the better.

I went to Driect TV. I had a moment of complete and utter madness when I did that. I absolutely hated it. Their customer service sucks, the minute the wind would blow, or snow hit the dish, I'd lose the signal. Then it's call them or go on line and reset it yourself. They'd give you a bad attitude if you called and asked them to reset it.

Not only that but the package I had was through Verizon. So, I got my home phone, cell phone, TV package and internet in one bundle package. But I didn't read the small print. I ended up paying them $300 to cancel my contract AFTER 1 year of service. It was the best $300 I ever spent.

Dish satellite, I've heard is better. I have not had any dealings with them.... Hughes...... I had customers that have had it and hated it, but at the time they were stuck.

I'm now with lovely Time Warner, and if they could, they would make you sign papers that your first born, your last born, and all of your paychecks belong to them.

There has to be a better option... oh yeah, sit home with nothing and stare at the walls. Good luck with your search, and I hope you can find something reasonable and dependable....

Just another thought. I've lived a few places where I didn't have a good cellphone signal. There were some devices that could help boost the signal so I could get service. This was a few years ago. I'm not sure what might be out there now. The catch was, it didn't work if there was NO signal, but would help with a weak signal. I'm not sure if there's something like that for the wireless internet service, might be worth checking?

They work off the internet. So you have to have internet first. Maybe with DTV or HugesNet. Then that would apply.

If the cell signal is weak then it's doubtful they can get internet to you.
