Anti seizure meds are OFTEN used as mood stabilizers. However, I'm not a seizy person, I'm bipolar 2.
So far I have found one anti seizure med that really helps my mood. The others I have tried? Made me worse, with the exception of Lamictal. So far, I have yet to see any marked improvement from it.
Your psych doc and your neurology doc ( if not the same doctor) may need to be communicating.

Keppra is known among Keppra users for causing something known as " Kepprage.".
So my friend, who's on it, tells me.
Keppra seems to destabilize mood more than most anti seizure meds, apparently? At least anecdotally.
Again, neurologist and psychiatrist have to work together...

That was the idea of putting me on zonegran (Zonisamide) which has done a fantastic job with the seizures but very little for the mood swings. Need to talk to my neuro about a possible change. Didn't consider it wasn't doing the whole job.

Topamax helps my mood, but apparently only a minority of topamax users get that benefit. Trileptal made my moods bounce like a bungee, abilify made me rage, Lamictal is " what was this supposed to do? " but I need to max the dose before giving up on it.

Got the find the one that helps prevent rage and slows adrenaline. I've been able to progress on many fronts and become the person that is mostly tolerable, but My adrenaline response has never been under my control. We believe it is fully autonomic. We see shrinking hypothalamus on MRI as that sugests why aggression is a problem.
