Sessions Cancelled Due To Family Emergency - Feeling Lost

My doctor had family emergency, so all appts cancelled for this month and July.
The receptionist said something about her daughter and sounds very serious.

I feel very sad for T :(. And part of me wants to send a card or leave a VM, but would that be appropriate?

I am also feeling very guilty because am also feeling lost without her and not sure what to do.
 
Could you see a therapist within her office, so your still getting help but not going to far for the help. I know if my therapist can't see me for awhile he will set me up with someone within his practice just to keep the process going, and also to add some new prespective to the situation. So I am still getting the much needed help I need to deal with the day to day aspects of ptsd but when my therapist isn't available, I know there will be help outside of relying on just one person to get me through.
 
I just found out doctor might be back in October after being off since June 1.

I have missed her alot, but not sure if I can go back. I mean I feel guilty telling her my problems after she has gone through her child being in hospital (receptionist let it slip that was bone cancer)

I am not sure, will feel weird going back. any ideas?
 
Your T wouldn't be coming back to work if she weren't able to work. I'm sure she would appreciate it if you said something like, "I'm sorry you had an ill family member. I have been thinking of your family during this difficult time." A good T knows not to make the session about her, but she can still hear your empathy and appreciate it.
 
Just spoke to T's receptionist. T's daughter is back in hospital, so now she won't be coming back until Feb. I am thinking I should start looking for new T. Fall is bad time for me. I just dont have the energy to start over. Not sure what to do.
 
Call back and get a referral, see what their plan is for her patients. They have to have some idea that patients will need to see someone. Get help to point you in the right direction then just take some steps along the path.

Hi Canucklady,

I think you should take care of yourself first. Get a new therapist, ask the office of your current doctor to give you refferals for bridge sessions or for a new therapist. Your therapy can't go on hold because of your therapist's problems, however serious and understandable. You can do both, sympathize with her and still take care of your own needs.
