Sheppard Pratt Questions

That's good feedback. I have no idea if they'd listen, but if you have a mechanism to send a note to them, either through your therapist or via a contact us follow up, I'd encourage you to do so.

And thanks for posting on this thread.

They say that yoga is triggering. (They say pretty much everything is triggering.) I'm not really sure why, because there are trauma-informed yoga practices. Maybe just something about people working out together, I don't know. They do do chair aerobics every few weeks! Really intense workout.

I know its scary to contemplate going into such a restricted environment, but I can tell you my going was the best thing I have ever done, I learned skills there that were life changers, that I use every day. The isolated environment removes trigger sources, so you can concentrate on you. You should go, so you can move forward.

For the first time someone (my regular therapist) used the word "severe abuse" referring to my past, until now I was not sure they understood how bad it was, they are just beginning to understand the scope of what I am dealing with, as I was just re-hospitalized after my sister passed.

But it was the SP TDU that got me to the point I could even function at all. So it was worth it, and I would not trade it for anything.

If you go, Quinn is a staff who is brutally honest, I got the best feedback from him. He is a good one to go to if you want to get feedback that others might withhold. I found that useful.

All the staff are great, quinn is the only male staff, but he is a teddy bear at heart.

Hi. I was there for three weeks back in February. After discharge, I tried a day program in central MD but I didn't feel it helped, so I dropped it. Is there any advice for other Day programs in the area? AACO?

I was recent referred there for possible admission again, I was already at PIW for S/I and low lithium levels. PIW has a trauma unit that has a longer waiting list than pratt because it is smaller. So I was on that unit, instead I was on a regular unit that was triggering (like living in hel.) But I was seen by there trauma therapist who helped me with the issue I was dealing with. And so I ended up not needing PRATT. Doing ok for now.

As far as PHP or Day treatment, they don't always work, did not this time for me, as I spent a month in PHP before being hospitalized anyway.

Do you know what kind of help you need. Do let the system dictate what help you get, seek the help you actually need.

And if the response is you can't get that help, well I had to advocate for creating a crisis, but sometimes that's what it takes.

If it comes down to you having S/I or S/H vs getting the help, the help will win out, even if its a compromise.

I'm currently at an eating disorders program and we're looking at PIW as a possible transfer situation. Still open to Pratt even though they've denied my case 3 times already. I feel like giving up. This is a never ending battle.

I have some questions. I live in Il and am totally blind. I have DID, PTSD, borderline personality disorder, and major depressive disorder. I have one alter who doesnt speak, and the only way she can communicate is through typing. I was wondering if they offered scholarships for the program? Also, I know I have to apply for Maryland medical assistance, but the referal packet says they dont accept that as a primary insurance, but the website says otherwise. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there. I hope this is not too late. I was at SP in October. It was a good program for me. The sta...

Hello, I know this is waaaay past January, but I was hoping you could give me some more details on what I can bring. I’ve read the list but it’s a bit confusing. I want to bring my iPod Shuffle- no internet capabilities as Sheppard-Pratt requested. But of course it has a metal clip & those aren’t allowed, so is the iPod Shuffle still ok or do I need to get something else? I really feel like my music will help me stay calm & centered while I’m there.

Also do you know if you are allowed to wear makeup? One of my alters is very concerned about this & I’d like to take some along so she won’t feel so vulnerable & share more openly.

Do you know the avg length of stay? SP’s website said 2 weeks but on this site people have posted that have been there much longer.

Thanks for your time!!

the answer is no, they have headphones they lend you that have radio built in. The sound good. I used them a lot. Yes you can wear makeup, no perfumes, avg is 27 days, when I was there there were 2 people one there for 4 months, and one for 2 months, and some were there just a week or two. My stay was 26 days.

My T is actually trying to get me back in there - intake call today.
