Hi. You're allowed to take pictures and your cats will be there for ya when ya get home. I know it's hard to leave them, but you're making the best choice for you :) Dr Wait is very nice. You will see her every day for exactly 20 minutes. :) she keeps a very tight schedule. She is very nice and truly listens to you. Someone posted rap lyrics about her on the nurses station window. Very funny and very true. You'll hear very amazing stories of her dedication to her patients.

There is a tv and DVD player. Most of the time there isn't much time for tv watching. The weekends pass by very very slowly. You're allowed to take movies though if they are ok. Ie. Not violent or not triggering.its a very exciting time for you!! Many good things will happen! Everyone kind of goes at their own pace. Everyone wants to help you do your max healing. Just be very mindful of patients' food in the fridge. If you didn't bring it, don't eat it :) people are very territorial about their food :)

Food seems to be a big issue on the floor. Do they provide meals/snacks??? If so what are they like? Can you choose like at a regular hospital?

Wow, Sheppard Pratt sounds like it changed for the WORSE! We used to have private bathrooms and didn't have to sign up for shower times. UGH, now it sounds more like the local cattle farm psych units. The old unit (which was in the new building) sounded so much better. Not drafty, and no snow blowing in during the winter (I was there during a major snowstorm.) Weird, did they move back to the old building where they used to be? I guess you can ignore half of what I said!

Solara, why are you being so negative. I'm not ignoring anything. I will ignore negativity. Maybe they had to make changes because of peoples behaviors. I have heard good things from people who have been there this past year from many different forums. You are the only person that is being negative.

Yes. You'll get three meals each day. You get to choose from two different options and there is always a list of alternate choices to pick from. You'll fill out a menu for the next day every morning.

Then after the last group of the day, snacks are served. Like canned peaches, hot chocolate, ham sandwiches, chips, cookies, hummus, pretzels,... Etc. it's not a real big issue on the floor for most people. Just a few who take having food very seriously :) there is supposed to be always yogurt, milk, peanut butter and graham crackers available. It was my major regret, not bringing soda or some kind of snack. Because if you read the info, it makes it sound like you have every day access to vending machines- not true at all :)

You are right it did sound like that. I kind of want to bring yogurt, but if they have it, I'm not going to bring it. I was going to bring some small cans of diet coke. How big is the cubby? Would it be better to get cans, a two liter bottle? I won't have visitors because they can't drive.

THanks for your help and for being positive.

@zeckster81

I would get cans. Some people order a two liter when everyone orders takeout though :) It's just nice to have comforts of home. I for one like to have snacks :) And I remember being where you are right now.... I will be nothing but positive :) Sheppard Pratt is NOT perfect, but it is very good. Their absolute number one priority is keeping patients and staff safe. I made life long friendships in the short while I was in there. I hope your time is also positive :) It takes bravery to take that step.

I wasn't being negative , rather being honest. I liked the way it was before and I'm surprised that they moved units yet again, so quickly. I am a bit insulted that you slapped me in the face after I took the time to tell you a LOT of helpful hints. Maybe you should reexamine your assumptions and realize I wasn't being negative toward you, rather making a comment on how things have changed since I was there so that you knew my info was no longer current.

PLEASE re- read! I never accused you of ignoring me, rather said that you should ignore half of what I said because things have changed.

Peace out. I hope the program helps you, but I realize you don't want my help as you completely misinterpret what I say as a negative personal attack on you when it was nothing of the sort.

@zeckster81.... Solara was just trying to help you. You should re-read the entire post. She was just telling you what she knows about the place. It's sounds like it is different when she was there. Hence the "ignore half of what I said " I would thank her for her help.

I appologize for the miscommunication @Solara. I thought you were saying I was ignoring everything you said. I misread it. Please forgive me.

Peace,
Amanda

Hi Amanda,

Sorry.. I've been wracking my brain about the diet coke. I can't remember
if you're allowed to have cans. This may be why people had two liter bottles. I'm sorry. You can call and ask. I'm sorry. I know you can have two liter bottles. There is just the issue of it going flat, etc. I know 20 oz. bottles are also allowed. Sorry I can't remember. Ugh.

Don't rack your brain :) I'll take small bottles. I can understand if cans are allowed since they are metal. THe list online is confusing.

I started packing and my cats know something is up. They are all over me, my suitccase and just acting out. I feel bad. I'll miss them.

THanks,
Amanda
