I have a loaded question:

Has anyone ever heard of smoking marijuana for PTSD?

Someone suggested to DH that he should try it to help him calm down. A bit worried. HELP ME!!!!

I've heard of it but for people with PTSD that deal with chronic pain as well.

It's legal up here for medical use though. ;)

DH has cronic nerve damage as well. He was talking crazy about moving to Canada or CO...just so he can do it legally. I'm just worried about the law, you know people (police) don't understand things...

*SIGH*

armywife,

I started smoking pot when I was 15. By the time I hit my 30's I couldn't handle the paranoia it was causing, so I had to stop smoking it. Others say it helps. We are all different.

I really think that getting hubby into some intense therapy with a trauma specialist is really the way to go. Pot, and pills help, but they just cover up the real issue, which is the trauma, and the emotions that go along with it. Deal with those issues and his symptoms will lessen. Cover them up and they exacerbate over time.

From my limited experience of watching people smoke....I have seen nothing other than it causing further depression after some initial highs. From what I have seen it puts the smoker into more of a vegetative state which just causes further anti-social behaviour. IMHO the best thing for calming down is to actually go for a walk or do some mild exercise....it takes your mind off the situation initially and the exercise gives off good natural endorphins while doing your body a world of good. Some doctors I know recommend exercise as a treatment for depression....they tell you to get out and walk.

Also...when Anthony is not doing so well (is crabby or being painful with bad attitude PTSD) and I get him to come for a walk with me his spirits rise remarkably and quickly....the hard part is just dragging him out the door in the first instance
