I got to do something I've heard of others doing and always wanted to do myself. I had fasting tests early this morning, so was starving by the time I got to a local eatery. I'm about half way through eating and I see a guy come in, fatigues, subdued insignia, boots, buzzcut. Bona fied service man.

So, when I was done, I very quietly paid my bill and then threw down enough to cover his. I snuck out to my Jeep and beat feet, laughing all the way. Felt both like a little kid playing a prank and a true American honoring our troops.

DAMN! That felt good!

I only ever had it happen to me once, some old WW2 guys when Iraq 1 was done and dusted paid for our drinks while waited for the ferry, Was a nice feeling though.

In fact I tell a lie, It also happened on a BR run from Norfolk to London, some chick sat on the other side of the carraige got me an Egg and Cress sandwich from the buffet car. I was still in training at the time, spotty faced 16 year old, but the short back and sides and a bergen gave it away I guess.

We ended up dating a couple of years later, when she was Au pairing for a USAF family in Mildenhall. Never did get her in the sack, but then her old man was a Preacher, so I would probably have ended up on a pyre or something before going to Straight to Hell and not passing go on the way. :eek:
