The Rapture, yeah, right ô.o I'm excited to hear the excuses for why this Doomsday Prophecy has failed, like all the hundreds and thousands of prophecies that came before. I bet on "It's a test of faith." as the most likely, and "We prayed it away." as the second most likely.
But the idea has a certain charme. Imagine a world without all those Fundagelicals who really really really believe that they are going to heaven because they are such good people, looking out for all the evil, liberal, baby killing, gay, socialist sinners to turn and start following Their Only True God's Rules, even if it hurts... That would be nice.
On the other hand, would I want to live in a universe that's directed by a god who thinks these guys deserve a cookie for their efforts? Uh... nope, not really... I'd rather bear the bigots than their gods.
EDIT: Concerning judgement by a Higher Power That I'd Root For... I root for the Higher Power of Human Rights and Secular Laws. Humans judging humans by human standards with human interests in mind and a respect for human abilities and flaws. Rehabilitation instead of punishment.
And they've been judging for quite some time now, daily, worldwide and in a real way. Still needs improvement, all this, but that's how Real Things work. They are developed by imperfect humans that learn mostly by trial and error.
