Staying Safe At A Truck Stop Overnight

One of my best friends is driving down south to be with her partner for the winter. She's taking animals and no motels on her route will take them, so she decided she'll have to sleep in her vehicle at a truck stop along the way (it's a loooong two-day drive). She will have a firearm in her glove box and barking dogs with her. I urged her to try to find one with a security guard and to let them know she'll be there and also to park near the building and lights. But I'm worried.

Can anyone else think of any other safety tips I can pass along to her?

(Flying was out of the question. She needs her vehicle.)

Actual truckstops are super safe. Just pay for your spot (don't try and steal one, or sneak one, or prepare to be harassed/run off by staff, patrons, police), and sign in at the log book. Added benefit to parking legit? Use of the showers :D Fawking love their showers. :smug: Bliss.

Hi just signed up here tonight, ptsd is rearing its head while I camp, so thought I'd find support and saw this thread right off!. I travel all over the country with my dog, I am a fifty one year old woman. Trucks stops out side of big cities, TA, pilots, petrol and loves are usually super safe and the dogs are the best deterent. There is a travel app called All stays you can put in your route and it will tell u stops along the way, with reviews. Stayed in many, never any problem. Hope this helps.

Welcome, Becky, and thank you so much! I'm going to call my friend now and tell her about that app. She has to do this again in a couple weeks. She took the two dogs and one cat this time. Next time she's got to take the remaining three cats.

Hodge, oh good she made it? Excellant, should have added I am very jumpy with my ptsd so if I feel comfortable it has to be pretty safe and quiet:)
