Struggling To Keep Up With Disability (financial Aid)

New Here
I am on disability (in Canada) to "ease" me back into employment and/or further schooling.

Instead, I am more stuck than ever. I am incredibly grateful for the financial help - but every month a cheque is supposed to come, and every month I can't get out of the house to do the paperwork I need to.
Basically:
1) I rely on money for bills,
2) I don't get my cheque, and so
3) I have to make all these phone calls, do ever-changing paperwork, and go for walks to the office and talk to people.

It might sound simple but this is generally excruciating for me. I always do the wrong thing for disability and I have no energy to fix it; my anxiety worsens when I cant pay rent or bills, never mind food (and cigarettes).

I apologise for rambling. I guess my question here is whether anybody else has a tie to financial assistance, how to keep up, and what has worked best for you.

Thank you for reading. I wish everyone a lovely day.

I get you! I am in the process of reapplying after my breakdown. I was on it before though... I'm surprised there is regular paperwork involved... Haven't they updated to online reporting? Have you tried calling them on the day that you're suppose to go in for the paperwork, and explaining? Often people from those agencies are willing to jump hurdles if they understand your predicament.

I'm guessing you really don't need the extra stress hu? Keep updating and hopefully the amazing people on this site can help find some solutions for you :)

Liv, have you thought of getting the cheque, direct-deposited into your bank account? Thus, removing the need to stand in line-ups to cash your cheque. I know, in Ontario, you can get your rental allowance directly paid to your landlord. And the city of Toronto gives its welfare receiptants, a debit card with that month support, if they don't have a bank account. Just a few thoughts, as I don't know, how things are like for you, in your part of Canada.

Thank you Flyaway - I completely agree!! It seems to be a lot more difficult than it has to be, and for people that are truly struggling!
I think you're right, that if I told them how rough it is right now to get out of the house, they would help a lot more. I just get so intimidated, and end up saying "okay, yeah, I'll do that, all good. Thank you." Total people-pleaser sometimes! Thanks so much for your understanding. Sorry to hear of your struggles!!!

Therisa, thank you too! I did have direct deposit, but for the past six months I've missed random paperwork (late stubs, shelter papers, and other things I didn't know existed) and every deposit has turned into a line-up and a late cheque. But I will definitely check out the rental allowance paid to landlord! I like that :) Thank you very very much!

I understand! I don't like people to know how vulnerable I feel, so I put a brave face on and act like I'm ok. I guess we're just too good at putting on an act sometimes... I'm working on letting my vulnerability show at times, so I can get the help I need. Maybe you can too? You deserve to get support and help.

Your welcome, Liv. I know how scarey, it can trying to work through a system that isn't user friendly, to begin with. I wish you, luck, in sorting out your paperwork. May I offer you, a hug of support? For you seem, to need one, at this moment. :)
