Stupid Slumlord

Thanks all. I discussed calling the board of health last night with my roommates. It is still on the table as an option. Some of my roommates are reluctant to pull the trigger on it though. They have a huge distrust of all things government related and believe the free market can solve all. We shall see.

The landlord's employees did come today and have started fixing the problem again. So far we are up to usable small appliances (sinks, toilets). They said something about replacing the pipes downstairs when they come back (in 30 min) with more supplies. They have already improved the situation. I think they said something about broken seals where the pipes connect (my Spanish is not so good, neither is their English).

I have so many mixed feelings when the workers come over. I am worried about them. I think the landlord has some sort of bartering deal worked out with them. I know that many people who are relatively new to this country are frequently treated badly. I also know that there is not much I can do. The system is too messed up. I have seen the people work and they seem to be honest and are for sure have excellent work ethic. The whole thing is pretty confusing to me.

Good for you... sometimes these people just need to be stoodup too and they quickly get just how much power they don't really have at all. Some people just need to be pulled into line... get out of their ignorant mood. Well done to you Liz.
