Swimming Thread

I do love swimming... and enjoyed it for many years. Now I'm not supposed to because of my ears. I am not supposed to get water in my ears when bathing.
I understand! I can no longer put my head under water either and get my left ear wet because of when I damaged it in a car accident when I was 17. Now when I think about it, it really has felt like quite a loss because I too loved being under water. So now, when I get an opportunity to swim, I just enjoy being in the water, or swimming with my head above the water. (It may look strange, but it works for me! ;)) And when I'm positively desperate to dunk my head under the water, I close my ears tightly with my fingers and go under for a second or two!):joyful:

I am thinking to swim next summer in our town's swimming pool.
:playful:I hope you do!!!

I remember when I would go to my grandfather's little summer house on a lagoon. Lazing around the lagoon in an inner tube was one of life's sweet pleasures! (Now only if there weren't all those biting horse flies!) :D

I don't like to dive from very high. I am scared of heights
Me too!!!:nailbiting: But when I was a kid at the community swim club I would always jump from the high dive even though it made me nervous!:watching:

I'm very good at backstroke and head-out-of-water breaststroke :D
Everyone has their special gifts! :inlove:

I stopped 2 months ago when my back started getting bad. I should start again. Maybe I will go tomorrow.
It sounds like it's the perfect time to start! A lot of people with injuries are encouraged to get in the water because it is low-impact exercise. I hope you go!!! Even if you just walk around in the shallow end it's still good exercise! And how about figuring out something you can do in the water to totally relax those back muscles! Wishing you the very best with it!!!(((monster)))

Jacuzzi due to my heart issues among other reasons, but I still do from time to time. Just not alone, or I just put my feet in.
Even just putting my feet in a jacuzzi is heaven!:angelic: :D

Maybe that's why I don't like fish, I'm jealous of them! ;)
Hehehe! You're so funny! And that's coming from a fish lover! (In tanks and the ocean and...(don't tell them!)...to eat!) Gosh, now I feel guilty! I have imitation crab and cocktail sauce on the dinner menu for tonight! Maybe I'll go totally Vegan. I try, but then I get cravings for fish and meat!

Don't they have masks that cover the ears? Not as sexy but....

Whether it's a tube, floatie, or those sticks (those big floating sticks), it's sheer heaven being in the water. I always say everyone is happier on the water!!!!

It is great exercise. And best thing, you don't need any fancy equipment!

I've been swimming since I was 2 months old! I think water is one of the most relaxing places to be, however with age I agree with the warmth of the water being a critical determining factor as to wether or not I'll get in it. Also, I think cold water mimics the shaking I have with the anxiety attacks and is therefore as much a deterent as visiting my abuser!

For me it is for fun, exercise and relaxation.
Thank you discarded for your opinion.
I do love it and even if I only can do a little bit, its a start!
Be careful. if your back is not well, hope to take rest first. I am just concerned that you don't do damage further. Swimming does gives exercises to our whole body. so. Swim with care. :)
I just put my feet in.
:)
Awesome thread dear Jaret! :)
Thank you Kim :D

I think there are earplugs, are they available in your town? Yes, going underwater can give pressure to our ears. I remember when I would do underwater in deep water, I used to feel pressure in water. I don't remember how deep I went, but it used to be very deep. We used to play game to touch the ground. I think this all kept me strong. I loved doing so. :)

That would be great, but I've never heard of such a thing! I would have a hard time trusting it anyway because I've always had trouble with regular face masks leaking when I was young and used them. Is it normal for face masks to let some water in?? It seems to me they should not let in any water whatsoever once they are securely on by using suction. Maybe I was doing something wrong?

Me too. If it's not warm (AKA: inviting!) I have no interest in going in there either! :D

Thank you Jaret. I've tried all different sorts of earplugs and water always got in. (It may have to do with the fact that the shape of my ear canal isn't straight anymore due to surgery I had.)

I love swimming, I competitively swam all through school, it was the only sport I was ever good at, in fact it was the only thing that ever made me feel good about myself during the years of abuse.

My husband and I built ourselves a lap pool when we moved into our house. All the back breaking work paid off, this week we are having continuous days over 40c, so in this heat we will be in the pool everyday. Unfortunately, these days it's more like a whale swimming, but I still keep on swimming because it's one thing you never forget, I'm just a lot slower these days.:D
