Just been looking at pictures. Horrendous!

Arguably, dams have been far more deadly so far, than nukes of all sorts (including nuke mines, processing plants reactors, bombs and waste).

I've worked on smaller dams. Never had the papers or background in education and experience for bigger ones.

I have a friend who was taken off a big tailings dam project in a different part of the world, for insisting that the contractor used materials with properties required by the designer. It was a big project with world bank funding and lots and lots of political involvement.

When that dam goes (when, not if!), it will take a town out. tailings are far denser than water, the mud will bulldoze everything in its path. If contains relatively coarse material, it will consolidate rapidly when it stops moving.

Friend is well aware of these facts. As were the people who took friend off the job, and put someone less conscientious on to it. Difference is, friend has a conscience, and we are little people, compared to the psychopaths who are behind the future disaster.

if the mining project fails financially before the dam fails, I suspect that the tax victims of that country will be the ones who get to pay the world bank its loan back.

If the project succeeds financially, the dam will certainly fail, but the profits will be private, for the psychopathic big boys and girls.

It's one project that I know about, There will be many more around the world that are just the same.

Not good!

Hi Pencil,
Thanks for the like.
I used to use a photo of the Merriespruit tailings dam failure as in illustration.

once again, hoping neither you nor anyone else we know is down stream of any of that shit.

There's a wonderful and horrifying sequence of photos kicking about on the net of the Teton Dam in the united state, failing. It was only water, but caused an estimated $1G in damage at 1976 prices.
