My thoughts are with you. Most folks on this board have marched the same path as yours. (Yes, it does suck the big onion.) From personal experience, I can firmly say 'yes there is hope'. Make every day count -- try to do something each day that you view as a positive. It could be something as simple as taking a dog for a walk and having some "small talk" with a neighbor. Little steps first, and believe me, all of them count towards recovery!
In the words of my 'shrink' (a three tour USMC Force Recon Vietnam vet) -- "It is OK to temporarily 'run away' when the stress / panic gets to great to bear. Try to remember that you are not in the forces any more AND you are no longer in combat." It is easier said than done, but it is like doing calisthenics -- it does get easier over time.
