That Went Well

Had a social security hearing today. As I've mentioned before, I don't do complex instructions, noise, light- pretty any ongoing or sudden noises.

Part of the process is a vocational representative pointing out to the judge that I can do a certain job even with my limitations.

All of them were unskilled labor. Things like maid, janitor, car cleaner, delivery... Every one of them involved noise, movement, and light. I can't wait to try to buff a floor. I can't even manage to mow my lawn. That will be.....amusing.

The funniest one was "cooks helper." Drop one pan when I'm in the kitchen. And all the sensory stuff like dishwasher, dishes clanking together, bright lights...and I was wearing sunglasses because the fluorescent lights in the hearing room were bothering me. The funniest part- I can barely cook anything.

I'll jab to share the cooks helpe bit with one of my friends. She'd get a good laugh out of it.

The lawyer thinks I'll still get it based on what the neurologist report . And the amount of missed work I

But, still....

What part of can't do complex instructions, especially in a loud, sensory rich environment didn't the vocational rep understand?

All this was based on the TBI. Now, add in PTSD. Panick attacks, startle responses, the don't f*cking touch me response..... Oh, and the paranoia regarding coworkers and supervisors.

f*cking hilarious.

I just hope that you have lots of documentation from your doctors and things that will support your case for needing assistance. I wish you well.

Is PTSD a part of your claim?

I think that strengthens disability claims as its not a set physical limitation that can be worked around. PTSD is so unpredictable and if someone can't work because of a spike in symptoms, there isn't really a work around, KWIM? I mean most jobs have you on a set schedule but set schedules aren't conducive to this disorder when symptoms are bad.

When I did the paperwork, I didn't try to claim PTSD. I was having enough problems with the paperwork.

If I get turned down, one option is to reapply with different claims.
I'm not sure how that would work.

I just hope my lawyer is right.

Even if he isn't, I'd not last 10 minutes in most of the jobs mentioned.
Brain injury and PTSD overlap a lot. Then I have an "attempt to work" for the next application.

It's just weird the types of jobs they pull out their asses.

In my experience the judge can tell when the vocational rep is scraping the bottom of the barrel. He/she has to say something.

... Because PTSD sufferers don't have enough shit to deal with. I hope it goes well for you, Whyteferret.
