The 2 Second Attack

Hi all!

Lately, I have had this new issue arise where I'll jump/scream/shake/gasp for air for two seconds or less, out of nowhere. It's usually just one of those things, but my body does a huge jump. I have no idea why this is happening, nothing is in particularly triggering when it happens, so I'm just looking for some help and advice please!

I had the same thing happening to me my psychiatrist said I now fit the criteria for generalized anxiety disorder. maybe you do as well. with this new diagnosis I have now found a therapist that specializes in anxiety and not ptsd.

Yes, this happens to me but more like 20-30 seconds. I call them micro panic attacks. They seem to have started in the last year or so or else that's when I started noticing them. My T told me to not shut them down but it truly seems like that's all there is, always at night when I and the world are still. Sometimes multiple times per night with no known trigger. Wierdness....I'd love a cure as well!

I love these, personally. Either because; Yes! Some get-up-n-go!!! (And put the bolt of energy to use :D)....Or Oh! That was fast! Phew. Breathe &smile. Good on self! Way to rock out the recovery time. Check out that gawking progress! That little spike used to -still sometimes- run hours. And we're done after only <insert time period here> Hell yes. :sneaky:

You sound happy that you qualified?
It is nice to have an answer.

My T mentioned that generalized anxiety order (GAD) gets expressed in a variety of ways. Everyone has their unique bundle of symptoms.

It seems as if the 'Generalized' aspect of GAD are seemingly more random at first; as people learn to trace their feelings, they can find the trigger. Over time, I've been able to trace the triggers to my randomly occurring anxiety attacks; this has helped them decrease.at that point I don't know what happens to the diagnosis.

When my anxiety spikes, I have been training myself (with the help of my Alexander Technique teacher) to move, instead of living frozen. It works well. (Therapists find it strange, one tolerates it well, another therapist didn't.)

Thank you all so much for your support and understanding. I appreciate just getting it out!

@Saetva please don't misunderstand- I have had PTSD several years now and am used to long panic attacks, this is just a new symptom. Thank you for your help!!

Thank you, now I understand more. These pesky and different layers of PTSD keep appearing:confused:. There is something that helped me when I was processing strangulation. It is a really cool process, that brought release, healing and integration on many levels.

I took a Linklater (voice) Technique class for a year-until my symptoms finally transformed. The classes can be found in acting departments, theater schools. it works with breath, releasing through tensions, and being able to speak your truth.
