Hi Irton

You are not talking to yourself we do read just may not answer back.

This by no means a dig at cricket but check out the list your jokes thread and read the one called "The Rules Of Cricket". My husband's humour not mine.

I hope we win though just to show them we can.

No, no, not talking to yourself irton. I'm reading this, too:poke:

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, oi, oi, oi.
Hubby has as much passion as you about who's winning this. My brother is home from london for 2 weeks. He sounds so, pommy, we are aussie ising him quick smart.....:thumbs-up

Aaaaaaayyyyyy! people to talk to!

OK,
lots of rain yesterday and in the week preceeding. I'm amazed there was any play at all to be honest. I am about 45 miles away in Nottingham and we had thunderstorms rolloing in from the west all afternoon.

Oh! To be in England in the summertime!

Wow!what a day so far! Aussies got off to a flyer last night and things looked ominous for England as today started with the Diggers at 126-1. We needed wickets and fast. Onions got two in the firsrt over of the day! That woke the crowd up!
Eventually we bowled them out for 263. Now for all you Aussies out there, imagine this happening to your team on a regular basis. For ten years. Now you know what it was like being an England fan from 1990-2004ish.

It HURT.

Now imagine that you have had that pain for all those years and your team startes turning it round and hurting the prime tormentors right back with the same sort of medicine. And now you know how I feel today. Which is a nice feeling.

I digress!

Anyway, The game is very much in the balance at the moment as the Aussies have taken a couple of wickets and England have 67 runs. Our Saffer has a poorly achilles so he is out. The diminutive Bell has taken his place. Oh dear.

Bell is rubbish. He will score 37 runs and then get out. Playing an airy fairy woft at a high wide ball he should have left.

We will then all call for his head on a plate and bemoan the loss of our Saffer.

so it goes.

Cricket is a metaphor for life.

Having said ding dong is rubbish i sincerely hope he proves me wrong and gets 200.

no play today. it is raining cats and dogs. rubbish. I am thinking of having a new british empire for all us poor saps whose ancestors didn't emigrate to the colonies. You'll notice that all the countries that have brit descendants, RSA, USA, Canada, Aus, NZ etc all have much nicer weather than we do. Damp, wet and cold climate makes a perfectly acceptable excuse for rampant imperialism in my book.

Its been another fascinating days cricket folks! The Aussies bowled well early on taking Strauss' wicket for nowt. Bell got fifty (but he was not given out on friday when he was plumb lbw). Things looked like they were in the balance. Collingwood was exposed by good bowling enticing him to drive at swinging ball. We were `168-5. Still 95 runs behind! In the past, we would have folded. Freddie Flinthoff came to the crease. Knocked 74 off 79 balls with ten fours and a six! Wow! Prior supported with 41, Broad got a cavalier 55, Swann got whacked 24 off 20, and suddenly we were 113 in front with 21/2 of new ball action at the Aussies seciond innings. The aussies looked OK but the Katich went caught behind off Onions.

Ponting came to the crease. He is not popular here but he was booed by the crowd which was completely disgraceful and I am ashamed of it.

Then Swann worked him over and got shut of him for five. It is testament to the mans skills that with his wicket i said "we can win this!"

We can too!

Damn i enjoy the cricket. I often post here when i am in the black pits. I have been up for a few months or so. Its damn good.

Hi Irton

Reading your cricket reviews makes a change from listening to the constant scream of engines, not that I mind it too much but this is calm and peaceful on a Sunday night.

Back to the engines next weekend but I think it is only British Super-bikes not every class of bike's and cars, so it won't last from dawn till dusk lol.

Keep the reviews coming, oh and I understand the off side rule of football too.

Irton Pike,

I forgot this thread existed, or I would have nattered away with you about the Ashes!

How dismay were England at Headingly then?! How bad was that batting?! I cannot believe they (I become Welsh again as soon as England lose...!) lost 5 wickets in about 40 mins. I could hardly watch.

So, what's your thoughts on The Oval? Enmass changes? Mark Ramprakash....?

I think they should stick with who they've got. The bowling wasn't great, the middle batters were dismal, but they've got Freddie back, give the team some support by sticking with them and they might just thrive with confidence...

Can't wait. Completely sucked in by the Ashes this year!!

I'm back!

I have been up Swaledale in the yorkshire dales for a few weeks. It was absolute bliss. I did a 6 mile run up a roman road that started in nice weather and ended with me dissappearing into cloud and rain on top of a hill. Must get contact lenses at somepoint!

Anyway, I had a ticket for the Monday at Headingly. Bummer. I I was worried after we blew our chance to go 2-0 up at edgbaston. Lordy. the Aussies know how to administer some pain.

So, on to the Oval then. Trott seems a stopgap choice due to his age. I can understand why they went for hi rather than rampers cos if he is any use then he can be our second string for a few years while we bring new blood on. Why not blood a youngster then? I think they don't want to damage a youndgster by chucking them in at the deep end against the Aussies. Faint heart i think. Chuck a youngster in i say. Bowl Rashid. If its taking spin. Harmison if not.

Broad. Why? His bowling has been largely awful and we cannot afford to carry a bowler. Most dissappointing following the Windies visit.
